Bio-<strong>waste</strong><br />

In Västerås there are three alternatives of h<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g>ling the bio <strong>waste</strong>:<br />

1. You can participate in the source separati<strong>on</strong> scheme, which means that you<br />

put the bio <strong>waste</strong> in particular paper bags, see (Picture 43.) below. The bags are<br />

kept in the kitchen <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> placed in a ventilated plastic bin when it is filled. They<br />

are collected separately <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> treated at the biogas plant.<br />

2. Another alternative is to have home composting in the backyard.<br />

3. The last alternative is to not separate the <strong>waste</strong> at all. The bio <strong>waste</strong> is treated<br />

with residual kitchen <strong>waste</strong>, which means that it is incinerated. (Chemical<br />
