The residue produced is KRAV-labeled <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> accepted in <strong>organic</strong> farming<br />

according to EC-regulati<strong>on</strong>s. It is used as agricultural fertilizer by farmers, who<br />

are also part of the Växtkraft project.<br />

The idea to cooperate with the farmers started in the end of 1980s when<br />

politicians <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> employees realized that a new treatment system for the <strong>organic</strong><br />

<strong>waste</strong> was needed. At the same time the local farmers c<strong>on</strong>sidered an<br />

improvement in the soil structure, as the regi<strong>on</strong> has a very sensitive soil.<br />

Together with the Agricultural University in Uppsala the idea of digesting ley<br />

crops to produce fertilizer <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> biogas was examined. The cooperati<strong>on</strong> between<br />

the farmers <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> Vafab started in the middle of the 1990s. Plans to build an<br />

<strong>organic</strong> treatment plant for co-digesti<strong>on</strong> of agricultural crops <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>household</strong><br />

A c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong> for the Växtkraft project ( Picture 42) is that the digesti<strong>on</strong> residuals<br />

are accepted as a fertilizer. The farmers does not accept the residuals if the<br />

purchasers of the crops does not. Therefore the farmers must be ensured the<br />

purchasers accept the digesti<strong>on</strong> residuals. A lot of work has been d<strong>on</strong>e to<br />

guarantee that the residuals produced are accepted as fertilizers for<br />

c<strong>on</strong>venti<strong>on</strong>al farming, as well as <strong>organic</strong> farming. The participati<strong>on</strong> by LRF (the<br />

Nati<strong>on</strong>al Federati<strong>on</strong> of Swedish Farmers) has been important for the
