In 2008, 597,280 t<strong>on</strong>s of <strong>household</strong> <strong>waste</strong> was biologically treated (Figure 40.).<br />

An increase of 6.4 percent compared to 2007. In total that means that 64.5 kg of<br />

food <strong>waste</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> green <strong>waste</strong> per pers<strong>on</strong> was biologically treated in 2008. The<br />

biological treatment now st<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g>s for 12.6 percent of the total quantity of treated<br />

<strong>household</strong> <strong>waste</strong>. 133 of 290 municipalities already have more or less<br />

implemented systems for collecti<strong>on</strong> of food <strong>waste</strong>. 22 of these <strong>on</strong>ly collect food<br />

<strong>waste</strong> from restaurants <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> large-scale kitchens, while the remaining 111<br />

municipalities have systems for <strong>household</strong>s as well.
