temperature in this range. The digester has a total volume of 2450 m³. The<br />

30 days. The <strong>waste</strong> heat is used to evaporate <strong>waste</strong> water. Due to the<br />
evaporati<strong>on</strong> of the process water the installati<strong>on</strong> is operating free of any<br />

The gas producti<strong>on</strong> is about 110 Nm³ per t<strong>on</strong> of <strong>waste</strong> fed to the digester. The<br />
collected gas is stored in a 170 m³ gas bag <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> is used, together with l<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g>fill gas,<br />
to fuel biogas engines with a total installed electrical power of 1400 kWe. The<br />
surplus of electrical energy is sold to the grid. A high temperature torch is<br />
installed in order to flare off excess biogas. The digester has a semi-c<strong>on</strong>ical<br />
bottom with a sliding frame of 3 m diameter. (European Commissi<strong>on</strong>.,2010)<br />
The digested residue is extracted <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> either recycled together with fresh<br />
substrate back into the reactor or pumped to a 20 m³ buffer in order to be<br />
dewatered. Before the dewatering process, the residue is dosed to a mixing unit<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> mixed with a polymer soluti<strong>on</strong> in order to improve the dehydrati<strong>on</strong>. A<br />
screw press is dewatering the residue to 50% total solids. The resulting press<br />
cake is sent to a post-composting system in order to produce mature compost.<br />

The water effluent from the press is centrifuged <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> the effluent of the<br />
centrifuge is stored into a 200 m³ buffer before being evaporated by utilizing<br />
the <strong>waste</strong> heat of the gas engines. The evaporating capacity is 1100 l/h. The<br />
c<strong>on</strong>centrate of the evaporator is mixed with the press cake <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> the centrifuge<br />
cake in order to be stabilized aerobically. The steam is sent to an acid scrubber<br />
which is capturing the evaporated amm<strong>on</strong>ia <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> producing an amm<strong>on</strong>ium<br />
sulfate soluti<strong>on</strong>. After the scrubber the steam is mixed with process air, <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
eventually clean air, <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> treated in an insulated c<strong>on</strong>tainer with a biofilter.<br />

To avoid fluctuati<strong>on</strong>s as regards the biogas producti<strong>on</strong>, additi<strong>on</strong>al inoculums<br />
material is added in order to accelerate overall start up of the installati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
to stabilize the performance of the digester. The methane c<strong>on</strong>centrati<strong>on</strong> is<br />
around 55% which is the expected biogas quality. The plant has been designed<br />
to generate 5.2 x106 kWh per year electricity derived from the biogas. The plant
