THE TELENOR NEW FACE OF THE CITY CALENDAR FOR 2009
December 2008 – The Telenor calendar for 2009 includes reproductions of works of art created in the Start Up City
and Art2SitOn projects. The calendar designer is Igor Oršolić, a participant in the Start Up City project and author of
the mural in Novi Pazar, the art director of numerous independent projects and the winner of Bizart, Magdalena and
Grifon awards.
The New Face of the City represents the pinnacle of the cooperation between the Telenor Foundation and the Kiosk
Contemporary Art Platform, on projects aimed at reviving the Serbia’s art scene. Through joint efforts within the Start
Up City project, 19 cities in Serbia have been decorated with murals, while with the Art2SitOn project Belgrade gained
street furniture at the most popular locations in the city.
Yet another project where the Telenor Foundation has supported artists in reshaping everyday life of the citizens of
Serbia, by presenting their works of art at public places, the New Looks of the City calendar is the second calendar
produced by the company. The Challenge the Wall calendar for 2008 included reproductions of the 12 best works
from the contest for the best Telenor wallpaper design.
The New Face of the City calendar is printed on recycled paper and packed into fabric bags made of renewable
materials. In this way Telenor continues to contribute to environmental protection. With the calendar made of
renewable materials, Telenor wishes to focus public attention on the significance of environmental protection and
improvements, since pollution caused by plastic bags is one of the major environmental issues in the world. An
average a billion and a half plastic bags are discarded annually in Serbia. Plastic bags are generally used for twenty
minutes, while their decomposition takes up to a thousand years. All of the bags discarded in Serbia each year could
cover an area three times larger than the whole entire territory of the country.
In order to promote the new artistic calendar, Telenor hosted a cocktail party at the Telenor Expo Center on
December 11, 2008, for more than 100 prominent guests – representatives of the public, local and business
community, artists and the media.
