PROF. DR. ILIJA STOJANOVIĆ AWARD CEREMONY
December 2008 – At the ceremony marking the Day of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade, an award
named after Prof. Dr. Ilija Stojanović was presented for the second time on December 13, 2008. The Award was
founded in 2007 by the Telenor Foundation, honoring our most prominent expert in the field of telecommunications.
The Prof. Dr Ilija Stojanović Award is presented in several categories to the most successful students, young scientists
and researchers for their contribution in the field of telecommunications. In accordance with its values, the Telenor
Foundation founded this Award to provide young generations with support and help them continue on a path of
scientific and creative work (following the example of Prof. Stojanović).
Prof. Dr Ilija Stojanović, a member of the Academy of Science and Arts, was the father of modern theoretical
and practical telecommunications in the former Yugoslavia and present-day Serbia. He was the founder of the
Telecommunications Department at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade, where he started his career,
and taught nearly all the generations of today’s experienced telecommunications engineers who are the
leaders in the sector.
Since the start of its operations in Serbia, Telenor has been strongly supported by Prof. Stojanović, who has invested
his knowledge and experience in the development of the company and its values. Although long-retired, he spent
his last working day at Telenor, and therefore this Award has a special significance to both the young people for
whom it was established, and all the Telenor employees.
