PROF. DR. ILIJA STOJANOVIĆ AWARD CEREMONY<br />

December <strong>2008</strong> – At the ceremony marking the Day of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade, an award<br />

named after Prof. Dr. Ilija Stojanović was presented <strong>for</strong> the second time on December 13, <strong>2008</strong>. The Award was<br />

founded in 2007 by the <strong>Telenor</strong> Foundation, honoring our most prominent expert in the field of telecommunications.<br />

The Prof. Dr Ilija Stojanović Award is presented in several categories to the most successful students, young scientists<br />

and researchers <strong>for</strong> their contribution in the field of telecommunications. In accordance with its values, the <strong>Telenor</strong><br />

Foundation founded this Award to provide young generations with support and help them continue on a path of<br />

scientific and creative work (following the example of Prof. Stojanović).<br />

Prof. Dr Ilija Stojanović, a member of the Academy of Science and Arts, was the father of modern theoretical<br />

and practical telecommunications in the <strong>for</strong>mer Yugoslavia and present-day Serbia. He was the founder of the<br />

Telecommunications Department at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade, where he started his career,<br />

and taught nearly all the generations of today’s experienced telecommunications engineers who are the<br />

leaders in the sector.<br />

Since the start of its operations in Serbia, <strong>Telenor</strong> has been strongly supported by Prof. Stojanović, who has invested<br />

his knowledge and experience in the development of the company and its values. Although long-retired, he spent<br />

his last working day at <strong>Telenor</strong>, and there<strong>for</strong>e this Award has a special significance to both the young people <strong>for</strong><br />

whom it was established, and all the <strong>Telenor</strong> employees.<br />
