UNICEF AND TELENOR AWARD<br />

JOURNALISTS FOR ETHICAL REPORTING<br />

November <strong>2008</strong> – The UNICEF Office in Serbia presented awards to journalists <strong>for</strong> quality and highly ethical<br />

<strong>report</strong>ing on children and their rights, <strong>for</strong> the fifth time, on Universal Children’s Day. <strong>Telenor</strong> has joined in as a partner<br />

and provided special reward - Nokia N96 mobile phones <strong>for</strong> the prize-winning journalists.<br />

More than 40 articles, radio and television <strong>report</strong>s by 30 authors competed and the winners were Mirjana Jakab <strong>for</strong><br />

an article titled “Child with Disability Also Victim of Incest”, published in Gradjanski List, and Jelena Marinkovic <strong>for</strong> a<br />

<strong>report</strong> titled “White-Colored Walls”, broadcast on TV Pirot.<br />

The jury was made up of the following members: Dr. Snježana Milivojević, a professor at the Faculty of Political<br />

Sciences, Dragan Janjić, Assistant Minister of Culture of the Republic of Serbia, Djordje Vlajić, BBC <strong>report</strong>er, Ljubomir<br />

Pejaković, Advisor to the Minister of Labor and Social Policy of the Republic of Serbia, and Jadranka Milanović, media<br />

consultant <strong>for</strong> UNICEF in Serbia.<br />

The media <strong>report</strong>s were evaluated based on criteria of promoting children’s rights and general professional<br />

standards of <strong>report</strong>ing in journalism, including quality of <strong>report</strong>ing, ethics, public benefit, and whether the material<br />

can be considered an initiator of positive changes in society and its norms.<br />
