Modelling Our Future
Measuring 23 x 17 metres, the UPC’s new model of Abu
Dhabi is the centrepiece of Cityscape Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi is bursting with exciting new developments.
Some are close to completion, while others remain
computer generated images with start dates due in
the near future.
However, at Cityscape Abu Dhabi, which is being held
at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre between
18-21 April, visitors will get a detailed glimpse into
the future of how Abu Dhabi will look once these
projects are complete.
This is due to the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council’s
(UPC) decision to commission an interactive model
of Abu Dhabi. It will not be the only model on
display at Cityscape, but measuring 23 metres by
17 metres, it will be the largest and the centrepiece
of the exhibition.
The impressive model is on display on the UPC’s
stand and shows the whole of the city of Abu Dhabi.
It stretches from the Corniche on Abu Dhabi Island
to Shahama, Mussafah and Al Falah on the mainland
and includes the islands of Saadiyat, Yas, Lulu, Reem
and Sowwah, which are all set to become key
development areas for Abu Dhabi.
With a scale of 1:2000, individual buildings can be
easily identified on the model, which includes all of
Abu Dhabi’s future developments, such as Sowwah
Square and Masdar. But existing landmarks, such
as Emirates Palace and the Grand Mosque, are also
prominent to help people navigate the map.
