CSU-<strong>Pueblo</strong><br />

The Career Center also coordinates all on-campus<br />

recruiting by employers and coordinates the annual<br />

Career and Education Fairs.<br />

CENTER FOR INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS<br />

The Center for International Programs (CIP) is<br />

responsible for the recruitment, admission, enrollment,<br />

and retention of international students at CSU-<strong>Pueblo</strong>.<br />

Some of the services provided are: housing placement,<br />

airport pick-up, student orientations, cultural<br />

activities, Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration<br />

Services (BCIS) advising, assistance with academic<br />

concerns, and English tutorial services. All services are<br />

free of charge.<br />

CIP staff maintains an open door policy, ensuring that<br />

every international student has an opportunity to be<br />

heard and helped when needed. Typically, there are at<br />

least 40 countries represented during any given<br />

semester. Student academic success within the entire<br />

international population is the primary goal.<br />

• Orientation: All new international students to<br />

CSU-<strong>Pueblo</strong> are required to participate in a twoday<br />

mandatory orientation upon arrival. During<br />

orientation, new students will be administered<br />

English, math, and reading placement exams.<br />

Results will indicate registration into the appropriate<br />

course(s) and do not interfere with admission<br />

to the <strong>University</strong>.<br />

• Activities: International students are encouraged<br />

to participate in all activities offered by CSU-<br />

<strong>Pueblo</strong>. In addition, the CIP hosts individual<br />

events throughout the academic year. Annual<br />

events include the International Kite Fly, welcome<br />

and graduation parties, the International Extravaganza,<br />

holiday celebrations and field trips.<br />

• English Language Institute: The ELI of CSU-<br />

<strong>Pueblo</strong>, a Continuing Education Program, offers<br />

those lacking English proficiency a way to become<br />

proficient for entrance into university level<br />

coursework. The tuition is kept low, while quality of<br />

the program remains high. Students are offered<br />

conditional letters of acceptance into regular major<br />

programs, pending proof of language proficiency.<br />

• Sports: International students are encouraged to<br />

participate in intramural sports offered at CSU-<br />

<strong>Pueblo</strong>. In addition, the CIP supports and<br />

organizes informal soccer, tennis, ping-pong and<br />

bowling teams.<br />

The CIP is also the origination point for those CSU-<br />

<strong>Pueblo</strong> students interested in Study Abroad and<br />

Student Exchange Programs. Such opportunities allow<br />

CSU-<strong>Pueblo</strong> students to study in accredited<br />

universities throughout the world.<br />

Study Abroad Programs<br />

<strong>Colorado</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong>-<strong>Pueblo</strong> values the benefit of<br />

an education that includes international experiences.<br />

Consequently, the <strong>University</strong> encourages students with<br />

second language proficiency, when appropriate, to<br />

enroll in the CSU-<strong>Pueblo</strong> Study Abroad Program.<br />

Students wishing to increase cultural awareness,<br />

second language proficiency or competency in<br />

subjects offered in international settings, are<br />

encouraged to contact the Center for International<br />

Programs. Study abroad opportunities for CSU-<strong>Pueblo</strong><br />

students are presently available in accredited<br />

universities in: China, France, Germany, Korea,<br />

Mexico, and Thailand. Some schools teach in English.<br />

InternationalPrograms. Contact may be made directly<br />

with the study abroad coordinator by visiting Room 030<br />

in the Underground Annex of the Occhiato <strong>University</strong><br />

Center (OUC).<br />

CONTINUING EDUCATION<br />

The <strong>University</strong> makes available a broad array of credit<br />

and non-credit courses, seminars and workshops<br />

through the Division of Continuing Education. Some<br />

programs are offered on campus and others at offcampus<br />

sites more convenient to persons living<br />

outside of <strong>Pueblo</strong>.<br />

Off-campus instruction sites include <strong>Colorado</strong> Springs<br />

Citadel Center, Peterson Air Force Base, and Fort<br />

Carson.<br />

Both degree- and non-degree seeking students may<br />

participate in Continuing Education programs. (Only<br />

degree-seeking students are eligible for financial aid.)<br />

Persons desiring classification as degree-seeking<br />

students in the External Degree Completion Program<br />

must apply for admission to the <strong>University</strong>. Credit<br />

courses taken through the <strong>Colorado</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong>-<br />
