Concentrated practicum consisting of application of the<br />

nursing process in complex care settings. Prerequisite:<br />

Major nursing theories are examined in relation to nursing<br />

functions they imply, kinds of hypotheses they would<br />

generate, and kinds of research they would stimulate.<br />

There is examination of research process, design,<br />

methods of collecting and analyzing data, and interpretation<br />

of data. Prerequisite: NSG 351. (*)<br />

NSG 508 Advanced Practice Theory 3(3-0)<br />

Examines the theoretical basis of nursing which guides<br />

advanced nursing practice. Theories are evaluated for<br />

their applicability to practice, research, education, and<br />

administration. Prerequisites: admission to Graduate<br />

Nursing Program or by permission. (F)<br />

NSG 550 Health Policy & Finance 3(3-0)<br />

Analyze and utilize the historical, political, economic, and<br />

financial concepts in the development of one’s practice<br />

and the advanced practice role. Prerequisites: admission<br />

to Graduate Nursing Program or by permission. (SS)<br />

NSG 551 Health and Well Being 3(2-4)<br />

Health and psychological wellbeing of clients in the<br />

context of primary, secondary and tertiary prevention in<br />

advanced practice. Clinical hours required. Prerequisites:<br />

graduate nursing core courses. (SS)<br />

NSG 552 Advanced Pathophysiology 3(3-0)<br />

Comprehensive scientific background and understanding<br />

of pathophysiology as it relates to client’s needs and<br />

assessment across the lifespan. Prerequisites: admission<br />

to Graduate Nursing Program or by permission. (S)<br />

NSG 561 Advanced Pharmacology 3(3-0)<br />

Prepares the advanced clinical practitioner for drug<br />

therapy management in the diagnosis and treatment of<br />

clients across the lifespan. Prerequisites: admission to<br />

Graduate Nursing Program or by permission. (S)<br />

NSG 562 Advanced Assessment 3(2-4)<br />

Data collection, organization, recording, physical and<br />

psychosocial assessment and communication of data<br />

reflecting the health status of the client. Clinical hours<br />

required (60 hrs). Prerequisites: admission to Graduate<br />

NSG 571 Healthcare Informatics 3(3-0)<br />

The course includes internet use by health care consumers,<br />

policy, current and future role of telehealth. Covers<br />

informatics, current issues and challenges facing nursing.<br />

Prerequisites: admission to the Graduate Nursing<br />

Program or by permission by graduate SAFA committee.<br />

NSG 575 Curriculum Development 2(2-0)<br />

Historical foundations, theories and conceptual frameworks<br />

and processes for curriculum development are<br />

explored for all levels of nursing programs and continuing<br />

nursing education programs. Prerequisites: admission to<br />

Masters Program or by permission. (SS)<br />

NSG 576 Teaching & Instruction in Nursing 4(4-0)<br />

Teaching methods, evaluation tools, and the complexities<br />

of the educator role are explored in seminar discussions.<br />

NSG 581 Synthesis: Psych Mental Health NSG I<br />

9(3-24)<br />

Synthesizes theory into practice, based on psychiatric<br />

mental health competencies and advanced practice clinical<br />

requirements in the art, science and practice. Prerequisites:<br />

completion of all core courses. Two years (4000<br />

hours) RN clinical practice in psych mental health. (*)<br />

NSG 582 Synthesis: Psych Mental Health NSG II<br />

9(3-24)<br />

Synthesizes theory into practice, based on psychiatric<br />

mental health advanced practice nurse’s competencies<br />

and clinical requirements. Prerequisite: NSG 581. (*)<br />

NSG 583 Synthesis Experience: Educator 9(3-24)<br />

Synthesizes theory into practice, based on the nurse<br />

educator competencies and advance practice clinical<br />

requirements. Prerequisites: completion of all core<br />

courses, NSG 551. Two years (4000 hours) RN clinical<br />

practice. (*)<br />

NSG 584 Synthesis Experience: Family 9(3-24)<br />

Synthesis theory into practice, based on the family nurse<br />

practitioner competencies and advanced practice clinical<br />

requirements. Prerequisites: completion of all core<br />

courses, NSG 588. Two years (4000 hours) RN clinical<br />

practice in acute care within the last five years. (*)<br />

NSG 585 Acute/Chronic/Emergent Health Needs I<br />

8(4-16)<br />

Practitioner’s role in the diagnosis and management of<br />

client’s needs in fluid-electrolytes, cardiovascularrespiratory,<br />

nephrology-dialysis, transplants, GI/GU,<br />

endocrinology, nutrition, and genetics (240 clinical hours).<br />

Prerequisites: completion of all core graduate nursing<br />

courses and two years (4000 hours) RN acute clinical<br />

practice within last five years. (F)<br />

NSG 586 Acute/Chronic/Emergent Health Needs II<br />

8(4-16)<br />

Role of the practitioner in the diagnosis and management<br />

of client’s needs for neuro-trauma, oto-ophthalmology,<br />

oncology, women/men’s health, orthopedics, immunology,<br />

palliation, gerontology (240 clinical hours). Prerequisites:<br />

completion of all core graduate nursing courses and two<br />

years (4000 hours) RN acute care clinical practice within<br />

last five years. (SS)<br />

NSG 587 Synthesis Experience 9(3-24)<br />

Synthesizes theory into practice based on specialty<br />

competencies and advanced practice clinical requirements.<br />

This course may need to be repeated based on<br />

specialization. Prerequisites: completion of all core<br />

graduate nursing courses. Specialization plan developed<br />

by academic advisor and approved by graduate SAFA<br />

NSG 588 Management of Pediatric Clients 4(2-8)<br />

Role of the practitioner in the management of minor acute<br />

and chronic problems of infants, children, and adolescents<br />
