museums, exhibits and cultural events related to the<br />
course’s theme. Senior honors project will be introduced.<br />

Communication, lectures by writers, artists, political<br />
leaders and specialists. Visits to museums, attendance at<br />

MATHEMATICS (MATH)<br />
UNDERGRADUATE COURSES<br />
A grade of C or better is required for prerequisite courses.<br />
MATH 098 Introductory Algebra 4(4-0)<br />
Review of elementary algebraic operations including<br />
factoring and operations with fractions. Introduction to<br />
graphing, including graphs of lines. Solutions to linear and<br />
quadratic equations. This course does not count toward<br />
graduation. Prerequisite: Satisfactory placement exam<br />

MATH 099 Intermediate Algebra 4(4-0)<br />
A course designed to broaden and deepen algebraic<br />
problem-solving skills. Topics include systems of<br />
equations, exponents, radicals, complex numbers,<br />
quadratic equations, factoring polynomials, function<br />
notation and graphs (S/U grading). This course does not<br />
count toward graduation. Prerequisite: Satisfactory<br />
placement exam score. One year of high school algebra.<br />

MATH 109 Mathematical Explorations 3(3-0)<br />
Emphasis on quantitative reasoning and problem solving.<br />
Topics chosen from logic, sets, algebra, linear programming,<br />
probability, statistics, number theory, geometry, and<br />

exam score. MATH 099 or one year of high school<br />

MATH 121 College Algebra 4(4-0)<br />
Solutions of algebraic equations, graphs of rational<br />
functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, systems<br />
of equations, matrices, and determinants. Prerequisites:<br />
