Program Objectives<br />
The key objectives of the CIS degree are to:<br />
1. Prepare the graduate for an entry-level position in<br />
the information systems (IS) field.<br />
2. Provide the graduate with a foundation for<br />
continued career growth as an IS professional.<br />
Learning Outcomes for Graduates<br />
To function effectively as IS professionals, graduates<br />
must achieve proficiency in each of the following<br />

The Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Computer<br />
Information Systems (CIS) prepares graduates for<br />
successful careers in the computer information<br />
systems and information technology (IT) fields.<br />
Students complete a comprehensive, relevant,<br />
computer information systems curriculum that delivers<br />
high-demand knowledge, skills, and abilities in:<br />
software and web application development, system<br />
analysis and design, network design and administration,<br />
database design and development, and IT<br />
security and operating systems.<br />
The CIS program also includes three options for<br />
gaining proficiency in the field of computer security,<br />
which has been identified as one of the fastest growing<br />
occupations over the next 10 years. These include: a<br />
Computer Security option within the CIS major, a minor<br />
in Computer Security for non-CIS majors, and a<br />
Computer Security certificate for non-degree seeking<br />
students awarded by the CIS department.<br />
• Design and develop desktop and web-based<br />
applications using modern programming tools,<br />
techniques, and architectures.<br />
• Design and develop internet-based systems using<br />
sound web design principles and multi-tiered<br />
architectures.<br />
• Model, design, and develop database systems,<br />
including administrative processes and<br />
procedures for database management.<br />
• Develop and configure safe and secure systems<br />
infrastructures that incorporate hardware,<br />
telecommunications, systems software, operating<br />
system, and systems configuration components.<br />
The program seeks to develop a deeper understanding<br />
of the role of information systems within organizations,<br />
and the processes that support technology-enabled<br />
business development. The graduate will be able to:<br />
• Perform all facets of a modern systems analysis<br />
and design methodology, including systems<br />
implementation.<br />
• Plan, schedule and coordinate all tasks and<br />
activities involved in IT project management.<br />
