Acceptance of Transfer Credit<br />
Transfer credit will be awarded per the published<br />
Academic Policies section of this catalog. Credit will be<br />
awarded for a course in which a grade of C or better<br />
was earned. Grades of C- are not accepted for any<br />
nursing or nursing prerequisite course.<br />
Time Limits<br />
Nursing courses completed five (5) or more years<br />
before the date of graduation, either at CSU-<strong>Pueblo</strong> or<br />
at some other institution, will not be accepted as<br />
satisfying graduation requirements without the<br />
approval of the student’s undergraduate program<br />
coordinator and Associate Dean. Degree plans are<br />
developed with the student and their advisor or<br />
undergraduate program coordinator.<br />
Academic Standards<br />
Students are responsible for all academic standards<br />
policies per the published Academic Policies section of<br />
this catalog. In addition to those policies, the following<br />
applies:<br />
• Students must maintain a 2.75 (3.0 accelerated<br />
track and paramedic) cumulative nursing GPA for<br />
progression in the program. Failure to comply will<br />
result in dismissal from the program and the<br />
student will not be eligible for re-admission.<br />
• Students must complete all nursing courses with a<br />
grade of C or better. Failure of two nursing<br />
courses or the same course twice will result in<br />
dismissal from the program and the student will<br />
not be eligible for readmission.<br />
Graduation Requirement<br />
The BSN degree will be granted to undergraduate<br />
nursing degree-seeking students who meet all of the<br />
published requirements plus the additional requirements<br />
below:<br />
• Have a cumulative nursing GPA of 2.75 (3.0<br />
accelerated track and paramedic) or better at<br />
graduation. All nursing courses and required<br />
prerequisite courses must be passed with a C or<br />
better. Anything less than a C in required courses<br />
will not be applied toward graduation.<br />
Licensure Examination<br />
Students completing all of the Bachelor of Science in<br />
Nursing requirements and the national standardized<br />
exams qualify them to sit for the National Certification<br />
Licensure Examination.<br />
The Basic Bachelor of Science in Nursing Track<br />
(Basic BSN)<br />
The Basic BSN program assists the new student who<br />
has completed their prerequisite courses to enter a<br />
dynamic ever-changing profession of nursing by<br />
completing their BSN degree requirements. The<br />
program is based on a philosophical approach to<br />
nursing that includes the holistic synthesis of person,<br />
health and environment. The <strong>Colorado</strong> <strong>State</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong>-<strong>Pueblo</strong> offers the ideal foundation for the<br />
development of the professional nurse.<br />
Program of Study<br />
The student must develop a program of study with the<br />
pre-nursing advisor. The pre-nursing advisor is notified<br />
once the student has declared their major. The student<br />
must contact their pre-nursing advisor to develop their<br />
program plan as soon as possible. The plan will<br />
include 43 credit hours of required prerequisite<br />
courses and 77 credit hours of nursing courses for a<br />
total of 120 credit hours.<br />
Hybrid Courses<br />
A hybrid course is a combination classroom/Internet<br />
course. Students meet in a classroom at a regularlyscheduled<br />
time and place, the rest of the time is spent<br />
online. Both parts of the course, classroom attendance<br />
and online work, are mandatory.<br />
Students are expected to subscribe to an email<br />
discussion list, communicate on a regular basis with<br />
the instructor, and collaborate extensively with others<br />
in their class.<br />
In order to take a hybrid course, the student must have<br />
access to a computer so they can send and receive<br />
email, find information on the Internet, and participate<br />
in online discussions. Basic instruction in computers or<br />
the Internet will not be provided.<br />
• Complete the program’s minimum number of<br />
hours of approved course work within five years.<br />
