CSU-<strong>Pueblo</strong><br />

and comportment in professional nursing practice.<br />

Outcome Assessments<br />

The outcome assessments will be evaluated through<br />

or by:<br />

• Assessment of clinical competencies through<br />

multiple strategies including simulations.<br />

• Individual and course evaluations including the<br />

standardized testing program.<br />

• An end of program evaluation survey and a<br />

graduate follow up survey of nursing graduates<br />

and their employers one year after graduation.<br />

• National Certification and/or Licensure Examination<br />

(NCLEX) required of graduates prior to<br />

professional nursing practice as a registered<br />

nurse.<br />

• A survey of graduate employment and graduation<br />

rates.<br />

Undergraduate Admission Policies and Procedures<br />

Students are responsible for all undergraduate<br />

admissions policies and procedures as outlined in the<br />

Academic Policies section of this catalog.<br />

Undergraduate Admission Requirements<br />

Admission to the <strong>University</strong> does not imply acceptance<br />

to the nursing program. The undergraduate program is<br />

very competitive and applicants are ranked based on<br />

their GPA for the general education and prerequisites<br />

required by the program. Consideration is given to the<br />

percentage of prerequisites and general education<br />

courses completed by the admission deadline.<br />

Students will be notified in writing of their admission<br />

status to the program. Those students who are<br />

accepted to the program must return receipt of<br />

acceptance by the stated deadline or the admission<br />

status will be revoked.<br />

For the basic nursing student admission, requirements<br />

are a minimum GPA of 3.00 for all required general<br />

education and prerequisites. All prerequisites must be<br />

passed with a C or better (C- is not acceptable) and be<br />

completed prior to taking NSG 232/232L. All general<br />

education must be completed prior to taking NSG<br />

232/232L.<br />

Students for whom English is a second language must<br />

have a TOFEL of 550 or have completed the<br />

<strong>University</strong> requirements of English and Speech skills.<br />

Undergraduate Nursing Program Application<br />

Process<br />

Applications to the nursing program may be obtained<br />

at http://ceeps.colostate-pueblo.edu/nursing or in the<br />

nursing department. The completed applications must<br />

be submitted to the nursing department by the<br />

scheduled deadline. Incomplete applications will not be<br />

processed. Please contact the department if you have<br />

any questions regarding your application.<br />

For the basic student admission, the student needs to<br />

be admitted to CSU-<strong>Pueblo</strong> first, and then submit a<br />

separate application to the nursing program the year<br />

prior to the spring semester they plan to start the<br />

program. During the pre-nursing phase of the application<br />

process students will be advised by the prenursing<br />

advisor.<br />

Post Acceptance Requirements<br />

Before a student starts in the nursing program they<br />

must attend a mandatory orientation and have the<br />

following completed prior to the orientation.<br />

• Return receipt for program acceptance by stated<br />

deadline.<br />

• Have by a drug screen and fingerprint background<br />

check by the <strong>Pueblo</strong> County Sheriff’s Office<br />

located at CSU-<strong>Pueblo</strong> prior to beginning the<br />

nursing major or during nursing orientation,<br />

<strong>Colorado</strong> Law. House bill 97-1084).<br />

• Have current certification in CPR (Health Care<br />

Provider-C or equivalent).<br />

• Have a current physical examination within the<br />

last year and current immunization records. This<br />

must include the Hepatitis B series, Measles,<br />

Mumps and Rubella and a 2 step TB test. This<br />

must be filed with Student Health Services on<br />

campus.<br />

• Submit current unofficial transcripts showing<br />

completion of all prerequisite and general<br />

education classes.<br />
