In December 2005, JSOTF-HOA became<br />
<strong>Special</strong> <strong>Operations</strong> <strong>Command</strong> and Control<br />
Element - Horn of Africa (SOCCE-HOA) with an<br />
increase in the unit strength, although the mission<br />
set did not change. In November 2006, 20th<br />
SFG (A) Headquarters (-) deployed to round out<br />
the SOCCE-HOA staff for two years. This initiative<br />
allowed SOCCE-HOA to better accomplish<br />
its missions.<br />
Since 2002, SOF, based out of Djibouti, has<br />
supported various special operations elements,<br />

conducting FID with host nation units across<br />
HOA, supporting theater security cooperation,<br />
monitoring terrorist groups, and supporting<br />
other elements as required. SOCCE-HOA has<br />
been there at a critical geographic crossroads,<br />
supporting the war on terror. With the stand up<br />
of AFRICOM, SOCCE-HOA was scheduled to<br />
transfer to AFRICOM in October 2008.<br />
