‣ The <strong>Lions</strong> have dominated the series<br />
against the Falcons, amassing a 23-11<br />
record. The initial meeting took place<br />
at Tiger Stadium September 25, 1966,<br />
atlanta’s inaugural season, with the<br />
<strong>Lions</strong> running away with a 28-10 win.<br />
The <strong>Lions</strong> are 14-5 at home (5-0 in Tiger<br />
Stadium; 8-3 in the Silverdome, 1-2 at<br />
Ford Field). detroit has won 10 of the<br />
last 16 games in the series.<br />
‣ The <strong>Lions</strong> and Falcons met in the<br />
regular season opener or closer seven<br />
times between 1985-94. The two teams<br />
opened or closed the season every year<br />
from 1985-89, and met in the regular<br />
season opener again in 1997.<br />
‣ detroit was victorious 13-10 over<br />
the Falcons november 12, 2000 at<br />
the Pontiac Silverdome. The contest<br />
marked the first game and victory by<br />
gary Moeller, who replaced Bobby ross<br />
as head coach six days earlier.<br />
‣ The <strong>Lions</strong>’ 17-10 victory october 10,<br />
2004, marked the first time the <strong>Lions</strong><br />
won back-to-back road games since<br />
the 2000 season.<br />

among all nFC opponents and their<br />

‣ The <strong>Lions</strong> and Panthers faced off in<br />
their inaugural contest october 24,<br />
1999. detroit visited Carolina’s ericsson<br />
Stadium and handed the Panthers a<br />
24-9 loss. The Panthers’ made five trips<br />
inside the <strong>Lions</strong>’ five-yard line, and the<br />
detroit defense forced two turnovers<br />
and yielded only three field goals.<br />
‣ The contest was also the first of two<br />
straight games in 1999 where detroit’s<br />
defense did not yield a touchdown. That<br />
accomplishment marked the first time<br />
since 1983 that the <strong>Lions</strong> have kept<br />
opponents out of the end zone in backto-back<br />
games (45-3 win vs. Pittsburgh<br />
november 24, 1983 and 13-2 win vs.<br />
Minnesota december 5, 1983).<br />
‣ The Panthers evened the series record<br />
at 1-1 with a 31-7 victory at ericsson<br />
Stadium September 15, 2002.<br />
‣ despite having both a fumble return<br />
and a punt return go for touchdowns,<br />
the <strong>Lions</strong> fell short at the eventual<br />
nFC Champion Panthers, 21-14, on<br />
december 14, 2003.<br />
‣ LB Boss Bailey (34 yards) and S Kenoy<br />
Kennedy (64 yards) each returned<br />
interceptions back for touchdowns<br />
in the <strong>Lions</strong> last-minute 21-20 loss<br />
against Carolina at Ford Field october<br />
16, 2005. The last time the <strong>Lions</strong> had<br />
two interceptions for touchdowns in<br />
a game was at Seattle october 24,<br />
1976 when Levi Johnson and Lem<br />
Barney both returned interceptions for<br />
touchdowns.<br />
‣ QB Matthew Stafford tossed 5<br />
touchdown passes and Kevin Smith<br />
scored 3 times (2 rush, 1 rec) to lead the<br />
<strong>Lions</strong> past rookie QB Cam newton and<br />
the Panthers, 49-35, on nov. 20, 2011.<br />
‣ after a sluggish start against Carolina,<br />
november 20, 2011, the <strong>Lions</strong> overcame<br />
a 17-point deficit to defeat the Panthers<br />
49-35 behind QB Matthew Stafford’s 5<br />
touchdown passes, all to five different<br />
receivers. Just recently re-acquired, rB<br />
Kevin Smith rushed for a career-high<br />
140 yards (201 total yards), along with<br />
2 rushing and 1 receiving touchdowns.<br />
