The CATR/ACRT Awards<br />
The CATR/ACRT congratulates all of the Association’s 2013 award recipients. We particularly would<br />
like to draw your attention to our newest prize. The CATR/ACRT conference awards support travel<br />
expenses for emerging scholars, theatre practitioners, and in<strong>de</strong>pen<strong>de</strong>nt or un<strong>de</strong>remployed scholars<br />
presenting at the CATR/ACRT annual meeting. (Please note that CATR <strong>de</strong>fines an “emerging scholar”<br />
as a graduate stu<strong>de</strong>nt or someone who has been out of graduate school for less than 5 years.) This<br />
year, the four awards were announced in advance of the conference.<br />
Intercultural theatre: Nikki Shaffeeulah (University of Alberta), for “Staging Diversity and Embodied<br />
Decolonization: An introduction to the history, theoretical foundation, and trajectory of a communitybased<br />
anti-racist feminist theatre project”<br />
International theatre: Mary Isbell (University of Connecticut), for “‘Maintaining the Dignity of the Stage’<br />
at Sea: Culture Wars aboard the USS Macedonian”<br />
Theatre practice: Natalie Doonan (Concordia University), for her research document reflecting on her<br />
practice at le/the Sensorium<br />
Theatre and performance in French: Joanna Mansbridge (Simon Fraser University), for "A ‘Messy’<br />
History of Burlesque in Montreal"<br />
