wellington district results High Guns Chris Parkinson A grade, Brendon Malcolm High Gun, Huia Prince B grade, and Shane Ashworth C grade. Skeet Chris Parkinson 1st A, Karen Hayes 1st C, Chris Cassin HOA, Dave Grant 1st B Attendance on the Saturday was a little down on usual with 33 competitors. First event for the day was Skeet and with only one possible to Chris Cassin who took HOA as well as the sought after Sos Savage Memorial Trophy. Chris Parkinson, Kriston Chadwick and Murray Cameron shot off for A Grade with 24’s and finished in that order. That Murray would not be a bad Skeet shot if he could hit high 1. Dave Grant took out B grade with a 24, as did Karen Hayes in C Grade, a personal best for her. Next up was Triples, with Brendon Malcolm taking HOA from Keith Livingstone with the only 2 possibles. First B Grade won by Huia Prince with a respectable 49 and Shane Ashforth taking C Grade with a 41. Next was the Double Rise and, with problems in the past with timing issues on the Laporte Twin Lap, we were wondering if we would get through the event. In the end, the timing was not too bad and resulted with some good scores. Chris Cassin won HOA with the only 19, Rob Prince taking 1st A Grade with the only 18 and five 17’s shooting off for the minor places. B grade was taken out by Huia Prince on 16 and C grade won by Shane Ashworth with 14. The Minis proved to be elusive with only two possibles recorded. John Malcolm taking out HOA, leaving Chris Cassin with 1st A Grade. Quite fitting, as John may have had some sort of relationship going with the minis and had a head start on the rest of us as John kindly picked up the Minis from Woodville on his way down. Many thanks John. Last event for the day was the Ball Trap. Best score of 24 shot by Club President Blue Freeman, Andrew Sanders and Rob Prince. After the shoot off, Blue took out HOA honours from Andrew getting 1st A Grade and Rob 2nd A Grade. Not a bad result for a Skeet shooter eh Blue. 1st B Grade was won by Huia Prince with 20 and C Grade won by young Jordan Rose on 19. Sunday started with Keith Livingstone leading the High Gun by 2 from Chris Cassin and Brendon Malcolm, so it was going to be a tight tussle with the DTL events to shoot. Also had a better turnout with 43 competitors on the Sunday. First up the Single Rise and only 12 possibles shot. Brendon Malcolm came out victorious after shooting 154 tgts in the shoot off from local Adam Green with Karl Andrews taking the Veterans badge with 2nd A Grade and Rob Prince 3rd A grade. Young Gregory Bentley took out 1st B Grade and the Junior badge after a shoot off with Kim Owen with 24’s and C Grade was won by Shane Ashforth after a shoot off with local Gun Shop owner Dave Gwerder Alison Sim won the Ladies badge after a shoot off with Karen Hayes on 22. The Points Score event saw four possibles with Rob Prince showing he is coming to grips with his new sponsorship deal including a new Blaser and Hull ammunition taking out HOA. 1St A Grade won by Brendon Malcolm from Mark McGhie and Chris Parkinson taking 2nd and 3rd respectively. Huia Prince won the B Grade with a 72 and Jordan Rose the C Grade with a fine 72. Next, the testing Single Barrel. With the conditions improving as the day went on, the event produced three possibles. The shoot off saw Brendon Malcolm come out ahead of Chris Cassin from Phil Bazalo and Rob Prince 3rd A Grade with 24, Brendon also posting the only 125 of the day in the Buck Knives North South Qualifying. B Grade was again won by Huia Prince with a 22 and the C Grade resulted in a Rose quinella with Jordan beating father Charlie in a shoot off also with 22’s. Minis Kim Owen, John Malcolm, Chris Cassin and Shane Ashforth Points Score Jordon Rose, Brendon Malcolm, Robert Prince and Huia Prince Last event for the weekend was the Handicap by Distance with 8 possibles being shot. The shoot off saw Karl Andrews prevailing from Chris Cassin and Councillor elect Michael Holmes 3rd. Brendon Malcolm won High Gun after his faultless day, only eight down for the weekend, closely followed by Chris Parkinson regaining some DTL form of late on 10 down. B Grade was no surprise (although the Secretary had missed it for presentations) won by Huia Prince, must be that well trained gun of Rob’s and C Grade was won by Shane Ashworth. A big thank you to John Malcolm for delivering the Minis and for assisting Rob set targets in the morning, also to all that helped keep the shoot rolling throughout the two days which enabled the shoot to finish early both days.
