Mirror and revo effect
are fashionable
Red, vermilion or rose
is suitable for most
conditions and will help
pick out blaze clays
Interchangeable sets are
increasingly popular,
giving a choice of lenses
• Mirror and ‘Revo’ – are coatings applied to the front of
the lens, usually applied to a base smoke grey lens. They
are primarily a fashion statement but they do increase
the filtering power by reducing the amount of light
interference, so they are good in strong sunlight.
Interchangeable sets
Interchangeable sets have become very popular because
they give a choice of lenses fitting the same frame. They
will typically come with two or three different lenses such as
smoke, yellow and red or vermilion. It means on a dull winter’s
day you can put the yellow lens in and leave it in. If the weather
is a mixture of sun and colour the red lenses will be good,
especially if you are going to be shooting at blaze clays, and in
bright, sunny conditions the smoke lens will be ideal.
Different lenses are one more variable and one more thing to
think about along with chokes and shot sizes. My advice is to
judge the conditions likely to prevail during the shoot and stick
to the one lens colour only. Put them on well before you start
shooting to allow your eyes to adjust and get used to them.
In rain, glasses can be a hindrance but
still necessary
In some weather, glasses are of little use
