Sports Update Sports Update Cross Country Team – 2010 State Champions! Volleyball Team – 15th State Championship! Bobby Blair, Athletic Director Cheerleading The cheerleaders competed at JamFest events in Gatlinburg and Indianapolis where they represented Assumption High School with pride. They also brought a special flare to the basketball games this winter where they worked hard to generate energy from our crowd. Seniors Katie Burch, Hannah Fieldhouse, Sarah Reynolds, and Amanda Whelan dedicated themselves and cheered all four years at AHS. This team will miss their leadership, but Coach Courtney Metcalf has a great group of young cheerleaders ready to step in and carry on with the team success! Dance The varsity dance team gave it their all at UDA nationals and finished eighth in the nation for small varsity jazz with their dynamic performance. This team returned home and claimed the top spot in the Small Varsity Jazz Division at the 2011 Kentucky Dance Coaches Organization (KDCO) State Championships. Photo by Tim Porco Photo by Laura Kremer Kline `97 Basketball The signature win of the season for the 2010-2011 Rocket basketball team came in the second round of the Louisville Invitational Tournament (LIT). This team was down 12 points with two minutes to go and somehow clawed back and defeated Ballard by three in overtime. The Rockets were led by one senior, Maggie Hartlage, who was later named to the Second Team All Region for the highly competitive Seventh Region. The individual accolades continued with Morgan Foley being named to the Seventh Region All Tournament Team for her efforts in the season ending loss to the numberone ranked Manual Crimsons in the first round of the regional tournament. This ties our school record-best finish that many of these same swimmers won in the 2010 state championship. Special kudos go out to Michelle Gasior and Carolyn Stewart who earned a spot on the second team all state. We’ll be sure you are added to our list for the next eNewsletter. You’re invited to become an ambassador... The Assumption Class Ambassadors (formerly called the “Class Agents”) are volunteers who serve as liaisons between graduates and the school, with the goal of promoting the mission and future of AHS. As class ambassadors, we ask you to reach out to your classmates in order to reconnect or keep them connected to Assumption and to each other. We currently need class ambassadors for the classes of 1967, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1977, 1979, 1980, 1981, and 1982. We also welcome additional class ambassadors for other classes not listed here. If you are interested in becoming a class ambassador, please contact Catherine McGeeney `02, director of Alumnae Relations and the Fund for Assumption, via email (catherine. mcgeeney@ahsrockets.org) or phone (502-271-2512). 1999 Class Ambassadors: Caryn Willian Leavens, Jackie Rossano Myles For Jackie Rossano Myles, 2010 was a big year. She got married in April and moved back to her husband’s home in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands! Since then they have traveled on vacation as well as home to see family and friends. She is loving life on the island and is looking forward to what 2011 brings! 2000 Class Ambassador: Catie Knable-Leslie Katie Schoenbaechler Jenkins and Ryan Jenkins Katie Schoenbaechler Jenkins had a great end to 2010 and fantastic start to 2011! On December 11, 2010, she married elementary school principal, Ryan Jenkins at the Cathedral of the Assumption in Louisville. The ceremony included bridesmaids and Assumption alums Erin Hoben `00, Anne Skubis `00, and Deanna Fetter `00. In February, after four years of working as news reporter at NBC 2/Fox 38 in Terre Haute, Indiana, she was excited to accept an offer to work for Dora Hospitality in marketing and sales. 2001 Class Ambassador: Laura Wallitsch Durbin Katie Malone Mulrooney moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, with her parents in 2001. She went to cosmetology school and graduated in 2003. She moved back to Louisville in 2005 and married her high school sweetheart, Kyle Mulrooney, a Saint X graduate, on August 15, 2008. They have a son, James “Wade”, born September 26, 2009. Katie is self employed at Studio 151 and also goes on location for weddings. She loves her job and has teamed up with Carrie Lentz who is a professional make-up artist and does a fabulous job. Katie can’t wait for her 10-year reunion to see all of her old friends! 2003 Class Ambassadors: Britni Knable, Marisa Main Ashley Buss Becker and her husband, Matthew, proudly announce the birth of their firstborn daughter, Madelyn Rose, on November 18, 2010. She weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces, and was 19 inches long. Tiffany Hall Keach and her husband, Adam, have been happily married since July 10, 2009. One month after their wedding they purchased their first home in northeast Louisville. Tiffany is a high school math teacher at a private school in J-Town. Adam is a senior actuarial analyst at Humana. 2004 Class Ambassadors: Christina Berry, Megan Herde, Michelle Jones Kristen Dugan graduated from WKU in 2009 with a B.S. in hospitality management and dietetics and is now completing her master of science in community nutrition at EKU. She is doing her dietetic internship through EKU in the Louisville area. She will finish her master of science degree in May 2011 and will take the registered dietician’s exam to become a certified registered dietitician. She will be seeking an entry-level position in the clinical field in the Louisville area. Su Krebs graduated from Bellarmine University with a B.S. in nursing. She is employed as a dialysis team leader nurse for Fresenius Medical Care located at Suburban Hospital. Her daughter, Christina, will be seven years old in April and is in the first grade. Su is saving her money and hopes to find that perfect place with the help of her loyal friends and realtors, Christina Berry `04 and Ashley Berry Brown `04! Lilybelle, Emmalee Mae, and Christopher Rezvanian Heather Spradling Rezvanian and her husband, Chris, proudly announce the birth of their third child, Emmalee Mae, on November 30, 2010.
