CODE OF CONDUCT AND SPIRIT OF CRICKET
1. The Nidderdale Junior Cricket League is committed to maintaining the highest standards of
behaviour and conduct. This Code of Conduct incorporates the Spirit of Cricket, as set out below.
It applies to all matches played under the auspices of the Nidderdale Junior Cricket League.
2. The Managers are responsible at all times for ensuring that play is conducted within the Spirit of
Cricket as well as within the Laws.
3. Players and team officials must at all times accept the umpire’s decision. Players must not show
dissent at the umpire’s decision or react in a provocative or disapproving manner towards an
umpire at any time.
4 . Players and team officials shall not intimidate assault or attempt to intimidate or assault an
umpire, another player or a spectator.
5. Players and team officials shall not use crude and/or abusive language (known as “sledging”) nor
make offensive gestures or hand signals nor deliberately distract an opponent.
6 . Players and team officials shall not make racially abusive comments nor indulge in racially
abusive actions against fellow players, officials, members and supporters. Clubs must operate an
active open membership policy whilst respecting player qualification regulations and welcome
players/members irrespective of ethnic origin.
7. Players and team officials shall not use or in any way be concerned in the use or distribution of
illegal drugs.
8. Clubs must take adequate steps to ensure the good behaviour of their members and supporters
towards players and umpires.

Nidderdale Junior Cricket League Rules
(AGM amendments in bold in all age group rules)
1. The League shall be known as the Nidderdale Junior Cricket League and shall be
administered by a Sub Committee of the Management Committee of the Nidderdale Amateur
Cricket League.
2. The Junior League shall be administered by a Committee which shall consist of: President,
Chairman, General Secretary, Treasurer, Match Manager and/or Secretaries of all
competitions within in the league’s jurisdiction plus a member to be appointed by the league
management committee with a special interest in Junior Cricket. The Junior Committee shall
have the power to co-opt an additional two members onto the Committee.
The Committee shall be responsible for the organisation of U17, U15, U13, U11, U9 League
and the Joe Lumb and the Lord’s Taverners representative sides. Each age group and
representative side shall have its own secretary and/or team manager who shall be a
member of the junior league committee.
The Committee shall meet as often as business requires, its meetings shall be minuted and
the contents of the minutes shall be conveyed to the Secretary of the league management
committee.
3. The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the junior cricket league shall take place in the month
of November each year. All clubs with a team competing in the junior league shall be given a
minimum of 3 weeks written notice of this meeting. At the AGM the following business shall
be included on the agenda: Reports from the Treasurer, General Secretary, Secretaries
and/or Team Managers, rule alterations, election of officers. Each club shall have one vote.
4. Each club shall pay an annual subscription which shall be: U17, U15. U13 and U11 £35,
Pairs cricket shall be £20.
The subscription for a club with a B team in any age group shall be 50% of that age group
subscription.
Subscriptions shall be paid to the Junior Cricket League Treasurer by 31 st May each year.
5. The final date for entering a team in any age group shall be 1 st February of each year.
6. Each club shall receive 4 handbooks for each team competing in the league and 2
handbooks for each additional team competing in the league.
7. All winners, runners up and man of the match trophies are to be returned, polished and
engraved, to the respective age group secretary, by June 30 th each year. The league
reserves the right to impose a fine not exceeding £10 for failing to comply.
8. A set of rules for all age groups will be published each year in the junior league handbook.
Any matter not covered by these rules will be dealt with by the junior sub-committee whose
decision will be final.

9. Any Club failing to fulfil a fixture will be fined £10 and the match shall be awarded to the other
team, unless a satisfactory report is given to the League Committee.
10. Both teams must enter results onto the League CricHQ website within 24 hours of the match
date. Failure to do so will result in a £5 Fine. A player may play for more than one Club in a
season if it is in a different Age Group Competition.
11. Any Junior Team not paying their fine to the Junior League will have the fine forwarded to their
Senior Club.
12. Any future ECB directive shall automatically be included in the rules for all ages groups.
13. At Under 13 and Under 15 Age Groups, Under 13 and Under 15 Premier Leagues can be
established and the teams to compete in the Premier Leagues will be at the discretion of the
Management Committee.
14. The Reg Dickins Cup is a Knock Out competition for all Under 11 11 A Side teams. Clubs will be
invited to enter a team in this cup.
15. Cup Matches – There must be two attempts to arrange matches before the specified date for the
next round. If the match cannot be played due to the weather, the Age Group Secretary will
determine the winner by the toss of a coin. This will not apply to Semi Finals and Finals.
16. A player leaving his present club to join another club at any time of the year must notify his
present club in writing before he/she is eligible to play for his/her new club It is the responsibility
of the new club to make sure that this rule has been carried out. Players can be transferred to
another Club providing that no monies are outstanding to the original Club.

U/17 AND U/15 LEAGUE RULES
1. At the 1st September prior to the current season only players under the age of 17 are eligible to
play in the U/17 league and players under the age of 15 are eligible to play in the U/15 league.
2. The competition will be run on a league basis. Two points for a win and one point each for a
draw, a tie or an abandoned game.
3. U/17 matches shall be played on Thursday evenings commencing at 6.30 p.m. U/15 matches
shall be played on Sunday mornings commencing at 10 a.m. Clubs failing to fulfil any fixture for
any cause except weather conditions shall forfeit two points.
Special permission may be granted from the U/17 Secretary or the U/15 Secretary for a club to
re-arrange a game under exceptional circumstances. (A team not having enough players
available is not exceptional circumstances).
Any matches re-arranged shall be deemed to be a draw if the matches due on the scheduled
date do not result, due to weather conditions, in any club gaining two points or a draw. If a rearranged
fixture is unable to be played due to weather conditions and on the scheduled day a
club or clubs gained two points or a draw, then further re-arrangements will be granted until a
match is able to be played. All re-arranged matches must be played by one week after the final
fixture date.
4. a. Each innings shall consist of not more than 22 overs.
Prior to the toss being made the match may, with the agreement of both team managers, be
reduced by a maximum of 6 over per side. No evening match shall start later than 7.00 pm.
b. All matches shall be played on a 22 yard pitch.
c. In the U/17 league no bowler shall bowl more than 5 overs. In the U/15 league no bowler
shall bowl more than 5 overs. The ECB Fast Bowling Directives shall be adhered to at all times.
d. Each club to supply its own match ball which shall be in good condition.
e. Each club to supply its own umpire and scorer.
f. In the U/15 league no fielder, except the wicket keeper shall be allowed to field nearer than 8
yards measured from the Middle Stump, except behind the wicket on the off side.
g. In the U/15 league a batsman shall retire on reaching 50 runs cannot
return
5. All players shall be junior members of the club they represent. No player shall play for more than
one club in any one season without the prior consent of the Junior Secretary. A player may play
for one club in the U/17 competition and another in the U/15 competition.
6. Results (including abandoned games) of U/17 and U/15 matches shall be posted by both teams
on the junior league website within 24 hours of the match being played. Any club failing to do this
may be fined £5.00 for each missing result.

7. It is the responsibility of the home club to advise the visiting club if the match is cancelled.
8. Teams playing over-aged players will be heavily penalised at the discretion of the junior subcommittee.
9 If entries are received from a wide area, the competition may be zoned. If this is done, the top
team in each section will play off for the championship trophy.
In the event of two teams playing off for the trophy and for any reason the match has to be
abandoned, it must be completely replayed.

Neutral umpires will be provided for all play off finals.
In the event of two or more teams tying for the zone championship, final positions shall be
determined on the basis of the team that has won most matches. If still undecided averages will
be calculated on the matches between those teams, the bowling average to be divided into the
batting average.
10 If a match is to be played on an artificial wicket then the home club must notify their opponents 48
hours before the match. Artificial wickets may not be used for play offs or cup semi-finals or finals.
11 No coaching will be allowed by coaches, umpires etc. on or off the pitch, while the innings
is in progress. The team captain is solely responsible for all on-field decisions.
12 Any complaint, dispute or protest will be settled by the Junior League Committee. All parties shall
have the right to be represented. In the case of a serious disciplinary complaint the Nidderdale
Amateur Cricket League’s disciplinary rules shall apply

ARTHUR BARRETT CUP COMPETITION
R.H. MELLOR CUP COMPETITION
1. Teams in the U/17 league shall compete for the Arthur Barrett Cup.
Teams in the U/15 league shall compete for the R.H. Mellor Trophy presented by Knaresborough
Forest C.C.
2. The competitions to be governed by the Nidderdale Junior Cricket League
Committee.
3. The names of all teams to be placed in a box and drawn out in pairs. The first out of each pair to
be the home team.
4. All matches shall commence at 6.30 p.m. except the final of the Mellor Trophy which shall
be played on a Sunday at Knaresborough Forest C.C. (2014 season agreed this will be
Friday 11 July). Semi Finals to be played on a Friday night at the elected semi finalists
ground.
5. In the event of a match being abandoned it shall be re-played completely. The two clubs must
arrange a suitable evening and notify the Junior Secretary of such date. In the event of a tie the
match shall be decided by the team which has lost fewer wickets. In the event of those being
equal the winning team shall be the team scoring the most runs from the bat.
6. A player must have played in at least 3 league or cup matches before being eligible to play in the
final of any cup competition unless special permission is given by the Junior Secretary.
Competing teams in the final shall submit a list of their teams to the Junior Secretary three days
before the match is due to be played.
7. All other rules as outlined in the junior league rules shall apply.

NIDDERDALE JUNIOR CRICKET LEAGUE
U/13 and U/11 11 a side League Rules
1. At the 1st September prior to the current season, only players under the age of 13 are eligible to play
in the U/13 league, and players under the age of 11 are eligible to play in the U/11 league.
2. In the U/13 league fixtures will be played on a Tuesday evening commencing at 6.30 p.m. If neither
ground is available then the fixture shall be played on an agreed date during the scheduled week. If
the match is rearranged for a Sunday morning then the match will commence at 10.00 a.m. No
matches shall commence after 7.00 p.m. and all matches must be completed within 3 hours of the
scheduled start. In the U/11 league games should be played during the fixture week. however, should
this not be possible, because of the weather or both teams’ grounds being unavailable, the fixture
may be rearranged by mutual agreement of both clubs. Any match not played shall be accredited as
a draw. Matches shall start at 6.30pm unless both teams agree an alternative time.
3. Results of all matches (including abandoned matches) shall be posted by the home club on the
league website within 24 hours of the match being played. Any club failing to do this may be fined
£5.00 for each missing result.
4. Each innings shall consist of 20 6-ball overs with a maximum of 4 overs per bowler.
Prior to the toss being made the match may, with the agreement of both team managers, be reduced
by a maximum of 4 overs per side. No match may start later than 7.00 p.m.
5. No fielder, except the wicket-keeper, shall be allowed to field nearer than 11 yards measured from the
middle stump, except behind the wicket on the off side.
6. In the U/13 league batsmen shall retire on reaching 35 runs, and in the U/11 league a batsman
shall retire on reaching 30 runs. In both leagues the retired batsman shall be able to return after the
dismissal of the last man provided the batting side has a full team.
7. In the U/13 league the pitch shall, if possible, be 21 yards in length. In the U/11 league the pitch shall
be 20 yards in length.
8. Balls must be 4.75oz in weight. Where possible wickets shall be 27" above the ground by 8" wide.
9. Each team is to provide umpire, scorer and ball.
10. Points –Win 2, Lose 0, Tie and Abandoned 1 each.
11. In the event of two or more teams tying for the zone championship, final positions shall be determined
on the basis of the team that has won most matches. If still undecided the averages will be calculated
on the matches between those teams, the bowling average to be divided into the batting average.
12. No player shall play for more than one club in the competition in any one season.

NIDDERDALE JUNIOR PAIRS CRICKET COMPETITION
Under 11s and Under 9s
RULES
1. The competition shall be known as “Nidderdale Junior Pairs Cricket Competition’. Entry shall be
open to all Clubs and Schools in the area covered by the two leagues.
2. (a) the competition to be run on a league basis. Two points for a win and one point each for a
draw, a tie or an abandoned game.
(b) If because of the number of teams entering the league team may be grouped into two or more
sections, where possible on a geographical basis.
(c) Games should be played sometime during the fixture week. However, should this not be possible
because of the weather or both teams’ grounds being unavailable, the fixture may be rearranged by
mutual agreement of both clubs. Any match not played shall be accredited as
a draw. Matches shall start at 6.30 unless both teams agree an alternative time.
3. In the event of two or more teams finishing equal on points, final positions shall be determined
on the basis of the team that has won most matches. If still undecided the average will be calculated
on the matches between those teams, the bowling average to be divided into the batting average.

5. At the 1st September prior to the current playing season only players under the age of 11 are
eligible to play in the U/11 league and players under the age of 9 are eligible to play in the U/9
league.
6. Each team shall comprise of 8 players.
7. The pitch shall measure 20 yards (under 11s) 18 yards or managers’ discretion (under 9s) and
must be on the square. All Clubs should abide by this ruling.
8. Equipment
Ball – 4 ¾ Oz for under 11s
Easter Incrediball size 4 ¾ Oz for under 9s
Pads – pads and gloves to be worn for under 11s
pads optional for under 9s.
9. Stumps as normal.
10. Each game shall consist of one innings per side. Boundaries shall count as four runs. Clear
boundaries shall count as six runs. Large grounds would benefit from shortening the boundaries for
these games.
11. The batting side shall be divided into pairs, each pair batting for 4 overs. Pairs change at the
end of the 4th, 8th and 12th overs.
12. Batsman shall have unlimited ‘lives’ but each time he is dismissed 6 runs shall be deducted
from the U11s and 4 runs deducted from the U9s and shown on the score sheet as a wicket lost.
The Umpire shall signal to the scoreres the fall of each wicket (using the normal ‘out’ signal). The
game not to proceed until the scorers have acknowledged the Umpires’s signal. 13. In the U11s all
fielders must bowl, with the exception of the wicket keeper. No person may bowl more than 3 overs;
in the U9s all players shall bowl more than 2 overs each.

13. No fielders will be allowed within 10 yards in front of the strikers’ wicket at the instant of
delivery.
14. At the fall of each wicket, the batsman shall change ends. This shall not apply if a wicket falls
on the last ball of an over.
15. At the start of an innings the Scoreboard shall show a total of 200.Runs will be added as scored
in the normal manner. For each wicket lost 6 runs shall be deducted from the total for the U11s and
4 runs from the total for the U9s. A running total shall be shown, plus the number of wickets. In the
league section of the competition: if both sides have the same score the match will declared a tie
and each side awarded 1 point. in the knock-out section: in the event of the score being equal at end
of the game the winner will be the side losing the least number of wickets. In the even to both still
being equal, then each person shall bowl one ball (overarm) at the wickets,
the side hitting the wicket most being the winners. If still tied, each side shall bowl at the wickets
and the first side to hit the wickets when the other has not in the same number of balls, shall be the
winner.
17. Each side shall provide a responsible person to umpire their games, who will be allowed to
assist their teams in the field.
18. In the U11s a maximum of 3 wides to be allowed per over. Should any further wides be bowled:
wide to be indicated – one run to be given – no extra ball to be bowled. (i.e. A maximum of 9 balls
may be bowled within an over). In the U9s all players shall bowl 2 overs each. LBWs to be given at
the discretion of the umpire i.e. providing the batsman is back on the stumps and LBW should be
given.
19. In the case of a dispute the final decision will be made by the results secretary and the pairs
representative.
