The Creative Giving Matched Funding
scheme is a component of Creative Giving,
a pilot programme initiated and managed
by Creative New Zealand, to support arts,
culture and heritage organisations to
diversify their sources of income, to increase
their support from donors and through
sponsorship from business, and to develop
their capability in the area of fundraising.
Objectives of the scheme
The objectives of the scheme are to:

incentivise best practice and skills development
among arts, culture and heritage organisations in
fundraising from donors and achieving sponsorship
from the business sector.
••
encourage diverse partnerships between arts, culture
and heritage organisations and businesses.
••
incentivise arts, culture and heritage organisations
to increase their levels of cash donations from
individuals.
••
encourage arts, culture and heritage organisations to
approach new cash sponsors.
••
encourage current sponsors and donors to invest in
a more diverse group of arts, culture and heritage
organisations.
••
encourage new sponsors and donors to support arts,
culture and heritage organisations.
••
encourage arts, culture and heritage organisations who
have not previously undertaken fundraising to secure
their first cash sponsorship or donation over $5000.
••
encourage arts, culture and heritage organisations
with existing relationships with donors or sponsors to
double current the level of support they receive.
Incentive grants
A total of $180,000 is available for the Creative Giving
Matched Funding scheme in the year ending June 30 2013.
The scheme will run over three financial years.
Incentive grants will match:
••
new donations received from first time donors to an
organisation on a $1 : $1 basis
••
new business sponsors to an organisation on a
$1 : $1 basis
••
existing donations/sponsorships if confirmed
contributions are double the investment from previous
years on a $1 : $1 basis
The minimum donation or sponsorship to be matched
under the scheme is $5,000.
The maximum donation or sponsorship to be matched
under the scheme is $20,000.
An organisation may seek more than one grant up to a
total of $20,000 in any financial year. No organisation may
receive more than $20,000 in total in any financial year.
For multi-year donations or sponsorships, the fund will
match the equivalent of one year’s investment.
Eligibility
All arts, cultural or heritage organisations registered as
a New Zealand Charity or have Donee status with Inland
Revenue Department.
Grants may be made only to the applicant arts, cultural or
heritage organisation.
Grants may not be sought to purchase services from
donors or sponsors.
Grants must match donations or sponsorships received
within this financial year, beginning July 2012.

Priorities
Priority will be given to organisations that have engaged
with other aspects of the Creative Giving programme, for
example the mentoring programme and workshops
Applications
There will be two funding rounds per year – the application
deadlines for 2012/13 are 5pm on 7 November 2012 and
13 April 2013.
Applications must be made on the Creative Giving
Matched Funding application form.
The application requires:
••
Evidence of eligibility – including proof of charitable
status registration or donee status, and certification
that the donation/sponsorship is either new to the
organisation or double that of previous years.
••
Written evidence of the sponsorship arrangement
or confirmation of donation, including a description
of the specific project, opportunity or partnership
proposition.
Successful applicants will receive an offer of grant and will
need to accept the conditions of grant.
Applicants will be required to report on the outcomes of
the investment and agree to participate in evaluation and
monitoring of the Creative Giving programme undertaken
by Creative New Zealand.
Grants awarded through this programme will be published.
Case studies and information about the results of the
Creative Giving Matched Funding scheme may also be
published, in consultation with the relevant organisations.

A copy of the organisation’s fundraising plan –
showing the organisation’s long term fundraising and
relationship management strategies.
Assessment
Applications will be assessed by relevant staff and external
assessors, as required. Their recommendations will be
subject to the approval of the Senior Manager Arts Policy,
Capability and International.
Results of applications will be advised within four weeks of
receipt of the application closing date.
Creative New Zealand is funded by the New Zealand government through
