The <strong>Creative</strong> <strong>Giving</strong> <strong>Matched</strong> <strong>Funding</strong><br />

<strong>scheme</strong> is a component of <strong>Creative</strong> <strong>Giving</strong>,<br />

a pilot programme initiated and managed<br />

by <strong>Creative</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong>, to support arts,<br />

culture and heritage organisations to<br />

diversify their sources of income, to increase<br />

their support from donors and through<br />

sponsorship from business, and to develop<br />

their capability in the area of fundraising.<br />

Objectives of the <strong>scheme</strong><br />

The objectives of the <strong>scheme</strong> are to:<br />

••<br />

incentivise best practice and skills development<br />

among arts, culture and heritage organisations in<br />

fundraising from donors and achieving sponsorship<br />

from the business sector.<br />

••<br />

encourage diverse partnerships between arts, culture<br />

and heritage organisations and businesses.<br />

••<br />

incentivise arts, culture and heritage organisations<br />

to increase their levels of cash donations from<br />

individuals.<br />

••<br />

encourage arts, culture and heritage organisations to<br />

approach new cash sponsors.<br />

••<br />

encourage current sponsors and donors to invest in<br />

a more diverse group of arts, culture and heritage<br />

organisations.<br />

••<br />

encourage new sponsors and donors to support arts,<br />

culture and heritage organisations.<br />

••<br />

encourage arts, culture and heritage organisations who<br />

have not previously undertaken fundraising to secure<br />

their first cash sponsorship or donation over $5000.<br />

••<br />

encourage arts, culture and heritage organisations<br />

with existing relationships with donors or sponsors to<br />

double current the level of support they receive.<br />

Incentive grants<br />

A total of $180,000 is available for the <strong>Creative</strong> <strong>Giving</strong><br />

<strong>Matched</strong> <strong>Funding</strong> <strong>scheme</strong> in the year ending June 30 2013.<br />

The <strong>scheme</strong> will run over three financial years.<br />

Incentive grants will match:<br />

••<br />

new donations received from first time donors to an<br />

organisation on a $1 : $1 basis<br />

••<br />

new business sponsors to an organisation on a<br />

$1 : $1 basis<br />

••<br />

existing donations/sponsorships if confirmed<br />

contributions are double the investment from previous<br />

years on a $1 : $1 basis<br />

The minimum donation or sponsorship to be matched<br />

under the <strong>scheme</strong> is $5,000.<br />

The maximum donation or sponsorship to be matched<br />

under the <strong>scheme</strong> is $20,000.<br />

An organisation may seek more than one grant up to a<br />

total of $20,000 in any financial year. No organisation may<br />

receive more than $20,000 in total in any financial year.<br />

For multi-year donations or sponsorships, the fund will<br />

match the equivalent of one year’s investment.<br />

Eligibility<br />

All arts, cultural or heritage organisations registered as<br />

a <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> Charity or have Donee status with Inland<br />

Revenue Department.<br />

Grants may be made only to the applicant arts, cultural or<br />

heritage organisation.<br />

Grants may not be sought to purchase services from<br />

donors or sponsors.<br />

Grants must match donations or sponsorships received<br />

within this financial year, beginning July 2012.<br />

Priorities<br />

Priority will be given to organisations that have engaged<br />

with other aspects of the <strong>Creative</strong> <strong>Giving</strong> programme, for<br />

example the mentoring programme and workshops<br />

Applications<br />

There will be two funding rounds per year – the application<br />

deadlines for 2012/13 are 5pm on 7 November 2012 and<br />

13 April 2013.<br />

Applications must be made on the <strong>Creative</strong> <strong>Giving</strong><br />

<strong>Matched</strong> <strong>Funding</strong> application form.<br />

The application requires:<br />

••<br />

Evidence of eligibility – including proof of charitable<br />

status registration or donee status, and certification<br />

that the donation/sponsorship is either new to the<br />

organisation or double that of previous years.<br />

••<br />

Written evidence of the sponsorship arrangement<br />

or confirmation of donation, including a description<br />

of the specific project, opportunity or partnership<br />

proposition.<br />

Successful applicants will receive an offer of grant and will<br />

need to accept the conditions of grant.<br />

Applicants will be required to report on the outcomes of<br />

the investment and agree to participate in evaluation and<br />

monitoring of the <strong>Creative</strong> <strong>Giving</strong> programme undertaken<br />

by <strong>Creative</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong>.<br />

Grants awarded through this programme will be published.<br />

Case studies and information about the results of the<br />

<strong>Creative</strong> <strong>Giving</strong> <strong>Matched</strong> <strong>Funding</strong> <strong>scheme</strong> may also be<br />

published, in consultation with the relevant organisations.<br />

A copy of the organisation’s fundraising plan –<br />

showing the organisation’s long term fundraising and<br />

relationship management strategies.<br />

Assessment<br />

Applications will be assessed by relevant staff and external<br />

assessors, as required. Their recommendations will be<br />

subject to the approval of the Senior Manager Arts Policy,<br />

Capability and International.<br />

Results of applications will be advised within four weeks of<br />

receipt of the application closing date.<br />

<strong>Creative</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> is funded by the <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> government through<br />
