How to read your new Smart Meter - Origin Energy

Out-smart your energy bills
Your Smart Meter, provided at no cost to eligible
residents participating in the Adelaide Solar
City trial, is designed to provide important
information about your energy usage behaviour.
It can help you understand your electricity
consumption patterns and identify ways of
reducing your usage, and in turn, the cost of
your electricity bills.
What does my Smart Meter tell me?
The specific data displayed on your Smart Meter depends
on your electricity supply. For example, do you have separate
hot water metering, or a solar panel installed?
Each type of Smart Meter has two buttons. The lower
button (Mk10 and Mk7A) or right hand button (Mk7C) can
be used to scroll through your display. Your Smart Meter will
also normally scroll through your display every few seconds
by itself.
It may occasionally be necessary for your Smart Meter to be
remotely re-programmed. This will clear the display values
on your meter and reflect lower than actual billed values. If
this is required, it will most likely occur in the first month
after installation.
Reading your Smart Meter
Your Smart Meter model type is displayed on the front panel
label (Mk10, Mk7A and Mk7C). The display consists of a field
name on the left, and a value on the right. On Mk7 meters (both
A and C) there are up to four letters in the field name, while on
Mk10 meters, there are up to six.
Simply refer to the table below for further information about
the various fields on your Smart Meter display (not all fields are
displayed on all meters).

Generation^ from solar panels for the current calendar month to date.
Generation^ from solar panels for the previous calendar month.
Full solar production # for current calendar month.
Full solar production # for previous calendar month.
* If your meter is a net solar meter, then this is the energy drawn from the grid,
not total household consumption. ^ For a net solar meter, this is the energy fed
back into the grid, not total solar generation. # Only where a separate production
meter has been fitted.
Your online energy usage information
Your electricity is billed in half hour intervals, which are
collected from your meter and delivered to us on a daily basis.
Your online usage information is a reading of your consumption
and is based on validated, collected data. Please note that
your electricity bill may not exactly reflect your online usage
information due to the variation in length of billing periods.
Your billing cycle will remain unchanged.
