SECTION VIII<br />

MIDSHIPMAN ACADEMIC YEAR (AYC) TRAINING 13<br />

1. Data<br />

a. Purpose. Provide fleet cruise training in LANTFLT and<br />

PACFLT ships during the academic year for N<strong>ROTC</strong> midshipmen who<br />

are unable to participate in cruises during the summer.<br />

b. Dates. As mutually arranged between COMNAVSURFLANT;<br />

COMTHIRDFLT; and NSTC. AYCs are generally for December<br />

graduates and occur in January or February annually, but other<br />

dates will be considered on a case-by-case basis.<br />

c. Loading. Academic year training will be limited to<br />

midshipmen with extenuating circumstances only. Academic year<br />

requests will require NSTC officer development approval.<br />

d. Location. As mutually arranged between COMNAVSURFLANT,<br />

COMTHIRDFLT, and NSTC on a case-by-case basis.<br />

2. Embarkation and Debarkation. Specific embarkation and<br />

debarkation ports, dates, and quotas will be as arranged between<br />

COMNAVSURFLANT, COMTHIRDFLT, and NSTC on a case-by-case basis.<br />

3. General. Midshipman embarkation and debarkation teams are<br />

disestablished during the academic year. Travel to and from<br />

ports of embarkation and debarkation will be arranged by the<br />

N<strong>ROTC</strong> units. N<strong>ROTC</strong> units are authorized direct liaison with<br />

ships to arrange detailed reporting instructions for assigned<br />

midshipmen.<br />
