<strong>2009</strong>-2011 <strong>Undergraduate</strong> <strong>Catalog</strong><br />
institutions to award eligible student Title IV aid when taking<br />
courses at two or more <strong>of</strong> those institutions. This agreement,<br />
entered into between each <strong>of</strong> the named institutions,<br />
hereinafter referred to as Home or Host Institutions, is<br />
intended to provide the basis for the Home Institution to pay<br />
and/or certify federal/state and institutional student financial<br />
assistance to UT TeleCampus students matriculated at a<br />
Home Institution and also studying at a Host Institution.<br />

Home: <strong>The</strong> UT component at which a student is fully<br />
admitted and enrolled in a degree or certificate program.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Home Institution will award the students degree or<br />
certificate.<br />
Host: <strong>The</strong> UT component institution at which a student<br />
may enroll and take courses applicable to the degree or<br />
certificate program at his/her Home Institution.<br />
A student wishing to enroll in a distance-learning course<br />
must first complete an Inter-Institutional Distance Education<br />
Admission and Registration (IDEAR) Form <strong>The</strong> form can be<br />
completed at the following Web site:<br />
http://www.telecampus.utsystem.edu under the heading<br />
TeleCampus System.<br />
NOTE: Financial aid funds will be disbursed after the listed<br />
census date for the respective semester for students who list<br />
UTPA as their Home Institution. As a result, students will<br />
need to contact their Host Institutions to make payment<br />
arrangements.<br />
s Study Abroad Program<br />
Enrollment in a program <strong>of</strong> study abroad approved for<br />
credit by UTPA may be considered enrollment at UTPA for<br />
the purpose <strong>of</strong> applying for federal student aid.<br />
Students who apply for the financial assistance for study<br />
abroad should apply in the same manner as if they were<br />
planning on being in residence at UT <strong>Pan</strong> <strong>American</strong>. A study<br />
abroad student must file a FAFSA and complete the Study<br />
Abroad Financial Aid Form This form can be obtained at the<br />
Student Financial Services <strong>of</strong>fice.<br />
Prepare s Discover s Transform s<br />
To be considered for Title IV funds, the study abroad<br />
applicant is expected to meet all financial aid application<br />
priority deadlines, to adhere to other financial aid deadlines,<br />
to meet all the eligibility requirements for Title IV awards<br />
and be making Satisfactory Academic Progress and to be<br />
enrolled halftime (six hours) in the Study Abroad Program.<br />
Stafford Loans<br />
Students who will be eligible for Federal Stafford Loans,<br />
unsubsidized loans and/or Perkins Loans should be aware<br />
that:<br />
1. First-time borrowers will not receive loan<br />
proceeds until 30 days into the term.<br />
2. Loan counseling sessions will be required for all<br />
loan applicants and the required applications and<br />
promissory notes must be completed and<br />
approved.<br />
NOTE: If a student is not automatically awarded a<br />
Stafford Loan, he/she may submit an additional Financial<br />
Aid Request available online at www.utpa.edu/finaid.<br />
<strong>The</strong> study abroad applicant should also note that if<br />
awarded an institutional or outside scholarship, these awards<br />
may result in a reduction or cancellation <strong>of</strong> financial aid.<br />
Disbursement Process (Study Abroad)<br />
Disbursement <strong>of</strong> financial aid awards will adhere to the<br />
regular university schedule <strong>of</strong> funds disbursement. Study<br />
abroad applicants who need to meet earlier payment deadlines<br />
must make arrangements to pay from their own resources.<br />
Pell Grant<br />
<strong>The</strong> study abroad applicant who is eligible for the Federal<br />
Pell Grant will have the award based on hours enrolled and<br />
the length <strong>of</strong> the study abroad academic school year.<br />
Return <strong>of</strong> Title IV<br />
Any time a student withdraws from the study abroad<br />
program, he or she will be responsible for repayment <strong>of</strong><br />
federal funds.<br />

s Types <strong>of</strong> Financial Assistance<br />
Grants<br />
Federal Pell Grant:<br />
This grant is available to qualifying students who<br />
complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid, which<br />
45
