(7) Should any person find that the safety lamp in his possession has become<br />

defective, he shall at once carefully extinguish the flame, if any, and report the<br />

defect to his superior <strong>of</strong>ficial.<br />

151. Maintenance ad repairs <strong>of</strong> safety lamps. – (1) Every safety lamp shall be properly<br />

assembled an maintained in good order. If any lamp is found to be defective or damaged,<br />

it shall not be issued for use until the defect or damage has been remedied.<br />

(2) If the wires <strong>of</strong> any gauge <strong>of</strong> a flame safety lamp are broken or burnt away, the<br />

gauge shall not be reconditioned for further use.<br />

(3) Damaged and defective gauges, glasses an other parts <strong>of</strong> a safety lamp shall<br />

not be kept or stored in the safety lamp-room.<br />

(4) No glass <strong>of</strong> a safety lamp and no bulb <strong>of</strong> an electric safety lamp, shall be<br />

replaced except by a glass or bulb <strong>of</strong> such type as the Chief Inspector may, from time to<br />

time specify by notification in the Official Gazette; and no other part <strong>of</strong> a safety lamp<br />

(other than a wick or battery, as the case ma y be) shall be replaced except by a part<br />

manufactured by the manufacturers <strong>of</strong> the lamp to approved specifications. No repaired<br />

part shall be used in a safety lamp.<br />

(5) In every flame safety lamp kept for the purpose <strong>of</strong> inspection or <strong>of</strong> testing for<br />

or detecting the presence <strong>of</strong> inflammable gas, no oil other than an oil <strong>of</strong> a type approved<br />

by the Chief Inspector shall be used.<br />

152. Precautions to be taken in safety lamp-room. – (1) No unauthorised person shall<br />

enter the safety lamp room.<br />

(2) No person shall smoke in the safety lamp-room<br />

(3) Where petrol, benzol, or any other highly voltile spirit is used in safety lamps,<br />

the following precautions shall be observed–<br />

(a) lamps shall be cleaned, refitted and refilled in a separate room;<br />

(b) only such quantity <strong>of</strong> voltile spirit as is required for one working day shall be<br />

kept in any such room;<br />

(c) internal relighters shall not be taken out <strong>of</strong> lamps and cleaned, repaired or<br />

refitted on the same table were lamps are cleaned, refitted or refilled; and<br />

(d) adequate number <strong>of</strong> suitable fire extinguishers shall be provided and kept<br />

ready for use in every such room.<br />
