mechanical ventilator was installed before the coming into force <strong>of</strong> these<br />

regulations.<br />

(5) The flow <strong>of</strong> air produced by a mechanical ventilator shall, as far as<br />

practicable, be so arranged as to aid the natural ventilation.<br />

(6) Every mechanical ventilator shall be in charge <strong>of</strong> a competent person<br />

appointed for the purpose, who shall not be entrusted with any other<br />

additional duties which may require him to go outside the fan house or which<br />

may interfere with his duties as incharge <strong>of</strong> the mechanical ventilator.<br />

(7) In every mine in which a mechanical ventilator is in use, the quantity <strong>of</strong> air<br />

circulating in every ventilating district shall be measure once at least in every<br />

30 days and recorded in a bound paged book kept for the purpose.<br />

133. Standing Orders. – (1) For the purpose <strong>of</strong> ventilation, every mine shall be divided<br />

into such number <strong>of</strong> districts or splits as to ensure that separate current <strong>of</strong> fresh air is<br />

made available in every such district or split.<br />

(2) The intake air shall be so arranged as to travel away from all stagnant water.<br />

(3) In any mine or part where a mechanical ventilator is used, every drive,<br />

crosscut, winze or rise which is a connection between a main intake airway<br />

and a main return airway shall, until it has ceased to be required and has been<br />

sealed <strong>of</strong>f, be provided with at least two doors so spaced that whenever one<br />

door is opened, the other door can be kept closed. Steps shall be taken or<br />

ensure that at least one <strong>of</strong> the doors is always closed. Any such connection<br />

which has ceased to be so required, shall be effectively sealed.<br />

135. Brattices, doors, stoppings ad aircrossings. - (1) There shall be provided ad<br />

maintained in every mine such number <strong>of</strong> stoppings , doors and other devices as may be<br />

adequate to ensure compliance with the provision <strong>of</strong> regulations 131. If any doubt arises<br />

as to the adequacy <strong>of</strong> such ventilation devices, it shall be referred to the Chief Inspector<br />

for decision.<br />

(2) (a) The space between the frame or every ventilation door and the ro<strong>of</strong> and<br />

sides <strong>of</strong> the road, shall be built up with masonry or concrete, not less than 25 centimetres<br />

in thickness.<br />

(b)Every such door shall be self-closing; and whenever opened, it shall be closed<br />

as soon as possible, and shall not be propped or fixed so as to remain open.<br />

(c) If such door is required to be frequently kept open for the passage <strong>of</strong> men or<br />

material, there shall be, throughout every working shift, a door attendant at the<br />

door.<br />

(d) Unless required for purposes <strong>of</strong> control <strong>of</strong> fire or otherwise, if a door is not in<br />

use, it shall be taken <strong>of</strong>f its hinges and placed in such a position that it shall<br />

not cause any obstruction to the air current.
