177. Fences. (1) Every tank or reservoir or other dangerous place in or about a mine,<br />

which has been formed as a result <strong>of</strong>, or is used in connection with, mining operations,<br />

shall be kept securely fenced.<br />

(2) Every fence erected on the surface shall, once at least in every seven days, be<br />

examined by a competent person. A report or every such inspection shall be recorded in a<br />

bound paged book kept for the purpose, and shall be signed and dated by the person who<br />

made the examination.<br />

(3) Any fence, gate or barricade may be temporarily removed for the purpose <strong>of</strong><br />

repairs or other operations, if adequate precautions are taken.<br />

(4) If any doubt arises as to whether any fence, guard, barrier or gate provided<br />

under these regulations is adequate, proper or secure, or as to whether the<br />

precautions taken under sub-regulation(3) are adequate, it shall be referred to<br />

the Chief Inspector for decision.<br />

178. Notices. – where at any place smoking or unauthorised entries prohibited, notices to<br />

that effect shall be posted at conspicuous places at every entrance to the place.<br />

179. Storage belowground <strong>of</strong> calcium carbide. – Calcium carbide shall not be taken or<br />

kept belowground until about to be used, except in a secure metal case or container<br />

containing not more than half a kilograme in weight there<strong>of</strong>. No person shall have in the<br />

mine at any one time more than one such case or container.<br />

180. Danger from poisonous substances. - (1) At every mineral dressing or separating<br />

plant where cyanide or other poisonous substance is used, there shall be kept a sufficient<br />

supply <strong>of</strong> a satisfactory and efficient antidose for poisoning.<br />

(2) Water containing poisonous or injurious matter in suspension or solution must<br />

be effectively fenced <strong>of</strong>f to prevent inadvertent access to it, and notice boards shall be put<br />

up at suitable places to warn persons from making use <strong>of</strong> such water.<br />

(3) In no case shall water containing any poisonous matter in suspension or<br />

solution in a dangerous concentration be permitted to escape.<br />

181. <strong>General</strong> Safety. – No person shall negligently or wilfully to anything likely to<br />

endanger life or limb in the mine, or negligently or wilfully omit to do anything<br />

necessary for the safety <strong>of</strong> the mine or <strong>of</strong> the persons employed therein.<br />

1[182. Use, Supply maintenance <strong>of</strong> protective Footwear. – (1) No person shall go into, or<br />

work in, or be allowed to go into, or work in, a mine, unless he wears a protective
