Predicting Stroke Risk in NVAF:
Scoring Systems
• A variety of systems have been published
• No single scoring system is universally accepted
• Most widely used in the US is the CHADS 2 score
• All scores have been derived from groups of
Non- Valvular AF patients who were not
anti-coagulated
• Europeans recommend using the CHA 2 DS 2 -
VASc score especially when the CHADS 2
score is 0-1.
Why CHADS 2 In AT9 Chest
Guidelines 2012?
“The CHADS 2 score is the most
validated risk scheme, having been
independently tested in at least 10
separate cohorts after its original
derivation.”
