LIGHTING THE FIRE
At LCS, we recognize that children thrive in a supportive
and nurturing community. For those who have an intense
interest in research science, the RISE Institute Research
Team provides a caring community of like-minded
individuals.
The Research Team is a safe place for those with a
passion for science and an interest in doing something
extraordinary to thrive. The academic as well as the
spiritual and social-emotional needs of high ability/highly
motivated students are an important part of our program
design.
The Research Team provides a place where students are
both challenged and nurtured, where friendships are deep
and learning is meaningful.
RISE INSTITUTE DISTINCTIVES
• Discovery science modules for all middle schoolers
combining Science, Technology, Engineering and
Math

Every student benefits from the RISE Institute’s
focus on community connections and STEM
enrichment both in the regular classroom and
beyond. LCS is committed to focusing on each
child’s strengths, recognizing that kids thrive in
an environment where they have freedom to
explore who God created them to be.
Research Courses
Introduction to Research Science
Designed for those who are new to
research
Research Science Course
Designed for highly motivated students
with research experience
Both research courses involve science fair
competition, collaboration, public speaking, and a
focus on Christian worldview.
STEM Units
Innovative and engaging units with a focus on
STEM learning are the foundation of science
curriculum for all students.
These hands-on units include:
• Biotechnology and Bioengineering
• The Architecture of Innovation
• Invention and Entrepreneurship
• Weather Forecasting utilizing the
WeatherBug weather station at LCS
• Adventures in Environmental Science
• …and many others.
Students utilize iPads for their work in science.
Passionate kids find their place at
the RISE Institute.
Some kids need more challenge. Some
kids ask big questions and aren’t satisfied
with easy answers. At Lakeland Christian
School, we believe talented kids need
space to be who God created them to be.
RISE Institute programs were designed
with these kids in mind.
STEM Learning with a Twist
A hallmark of the RISE Institute is
independent research following the INTEL
Science and Engineering Fair model.
Students develop a project that allows
them to delve deeply into an area of
interest and to become an expert.
Research projects are used to help
students connect to experts in the STEM
community, both locally and around the
world.
It’s not enough to do the research and
gain expertise. Kids also need to
understand how innovators use new
knowledge to produce products and
processes. The entrepreneurship
component helps provide the real-world
answer to the question:
“Why does it matter?”
