But the party only lasts for a single wonderful week. parade through Wrexham town centre, followed by a rousing performance from the Fron Choir and a spectacular fireworks display. Nothing like starting with a bang. We thought it might be fun to make a year of it. With more than 300 different events to showcase the very best local culture – plus a few big names from the rest of Wales. Welcome to Wrexham Year of Culture 2011. The programme includes drama, dance, music, film, the visual arts, heritage and literature. That should just about cover it. Do let us know if you think we’ve missed anything. We can always squeeze in another event somewhere. It all begins on 21 January with a lantern After that highlights include concerts from the Welsh Chamber Orchestra, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the chorus of the Welsh National Opera. Rhys Meirion, Aled Hall and Alun Rhys- Jenkins, aka the Three Welsh Tenors, will be belting it out at Theatr Stiwt. And other big events are being added to the list all the time.
