With offices in 88 countries worldwide, HSBC's international connectivity and presence is unrivalled, truly
cementing its position as 'the world's local bank.' The cultural insight and understanding derived from HSBC's
unique international standing has been further utilised within the UK through its Multicultural Commercial
Banking (MCB) proposition - a segment devoted to providing dedicated relationship banking for South Asian,
Chinese, Polish and Turkish owned businesses with an annual turnover of over £2m.
Our specialist MCB relationship managers offer entrepreneurial migrants an unparalleled depth of cultural sensitivity, native business practices,
language and cultural norms which are not only understood and respected; they are fundamental to the relationship between banker and customer.
MCB centres have been strategically placed in localities throughout the UK, typically in areas with high levels of migrant entrepreneurship.
Unsurprisingly, given the diversity of the capital, Polish, Chinese, Turkish and South Asian units operate throughout London - with offices in Stratford,
Canary Wharf, Ealing and Croydon. South Asian units operate in Manchester, Birmingham, Sheffield, Bradford, Leeds, Leicester and Preston.
In addition to culturally-centric banking, HSBC offer support through a range of events designed to bring the multicultural business community closer
together, encourage networking and enhance opportunities for business growth. Recent events held for South Asian customers includes 'Festival
of Seasons' celebrations in November to honour the festival of Diwali and Eid, while Chinese customers celebrated the dawn of the Year of the
Tiger with a Chinese New Year party in late February.
The success of MCB in the UK is now set to be replicated worldwide with the introduction of a 'Global Indian Business' strategy, focussing on Indian
Diaspora communities throughout the world. Head of this initiative, Dalip Puri, explained, ‘We have come to realise the size and strength of the
Indian Diaspora all over the globe. Given the strong links which often prevail between these communities and Indian owned enterprise, and our
strong position on the sub-continent, we are in a position to develop bespoke banking solutions for Indian customers. We are looking at ways to
offer banking solutions which enhance the service we currently offer, for example, faster remittance for payments to India.'
As to the future for culturally driven banking services? As the world becomes an increasingly smaller place to do business, banking which recognises and
celebrates the cultural identity of customers, regardless of where they work, live or trade, is surely set to be a valuable and welcome addition to the
definition of a bank with true international reach and capability.
