If you’ve never shadow knit before, this baby blanket is a<br />

great way to learn! <strong>Shadow</strong> knitting is a very clever technique<br />

that looks like stripes when viewed straight on but when you<br />

look from the side, the pattern is revealed.<br />

This blanket would look sweet in baby colors, bright crayon<br />

colors, or non-traditional colors as shown. Just keep in mind<br />

that the pattern will show best if you choose a light and a<br />

dark color. Colors close in tone won’t show the pattern.

Note:<br />

Starting with the dark colored yarn, this afghan is knitted by alternating 2 rows of dark colored yarn and 2 rows of<br />

light colored yarn. The first row (RS) of each color is all knit, all the patterning is done on the wrong side rows and<br />

because of that, The instructions will list the even # rows (WS) only.<br />

<strong>Baby</strong> <strong>Blanket</strong>:<br />

Using darker color CO 152 stitches<br />

Row 1 (and all odd numbered rows): See note<br />

Row 2: *P19, K19, repeat from * across (dark yarn)<br />

Row 4: *K19, P19, repeat from * across (light yarn)<br />

Rows 5 – 28: Repeat rows 1-4<br />

Row 30: *P19, K19, repeat from * across (dark yarn)<br />

Row 32: *P19, K19, repeat from * across (light yarn)<br />

Row 34: *K19, P19 repeat from * across (dark yarn)<br />

Rows 35 – 58: Repeat rows 31 – 34<br />

Row 60: *P19, K19, repeat from * across (light yarn)<br />

Repeat these 60 rows 3 more times. BO with light<br />

colored yarn.
