1.3 Selection SELECTION OF ROWERS ‐ Based primarily on the judgment of the Director of Rowing, (with input from Coach and Selection Panel) who shall consider: Performances achieved from collated data, including ergo results, single scull performances and ability in big boats (quads and eights) Past performances Adherence to the TSS Rowing Code of Conduct SELECTION OF THE OPEN & Y11 CREWS The selection process for the Year 11 and Open Crews is based around Single Scull performance and the Concept 2 Ergometer results. There will be several trials using each medium from late October through to early January. As indicated in the policy there will also be seat racing in large boats to finalise crews if required. The breakdown is as follows; Trials are spread over several tests in each area and over differing lengths. Full trial schedule is available on the TSS Rowing web site Scull Racing and Sculling Time Trials 70% Ergometer 30% Seat Racing and Selectors input as required to finalise crews after the boys are ranked using the equation above. SELECTION OF THE Y10 CREWS Trials are spread over several tests in each area and over differing lengths. SELECTION OF THE JUNIOR CREWS (Y8 & 9) Ergometer 60% Scull Trials 40% . Encompassing technique evaluation and time trial. Crew selection will not be final until Term 1 for the Juniors. During term 4, all Junior squad members will train in a combination of single sculls and quad sculls, where the crew members are changed on a regular basis. *In addition to the above selection criteria, each squad may be involved in seat racing (individual rotation) in quads and eights to finalize seats. This may be conducted anytime during the season, to the discretion of the Head Coach and Director of Rowing. The aim is to have crews finalised no later than two weeks prior to the Head of the River. 10
SELECTION OF COXSWAINS Based primarily on the judgment of the Director of Rowing who shall consider: • Past and present performances in training and competition • Coach input • Adherence to the TSS Rowing Code of Conduct • Attitude and Aptitude 1.4 Special Conditions If because of extenuating circumstances (including but not restricted to illness or injury), an athlete is unable to compete in a selection event, the Director of Rowing must be informed prior to the commencement of the event. The circumstance will be taken into consideration along with performances in other selection events. 11
