A Message from the President
I have a love of Goa. Maybe it’s because of the many travels there from a very young age or briefly schooling there or
living in the village homes of my grandparents. I always have that feeling of being at home when I am in Goa, at peace,
even though I was born on another continent! I bet some of you feel the same way.
But Goa is changing and in many respects the pressure on the people and the land of our roots, and for some of us,
our birthplace, is under threat. ‘Susegad’ may be alive and well but in some parts of Goa the environment, towns and
villages, tourist sites, heritage destinations and infrastructure are under pressure from development and a blatant
disregard for order.
Over the past year I’ve been privileged to convene a team of young, energetic and like minded individuals. We have
met, discussed, texted and thought of how best to move the organization’s agenda forward. We are determined to
have our actions guided by the reality of the constantly evolving situation in Goa. We believe that our success will
come from planning realistic actions and achieving tangible outcomes.
Your support and engagement are critical to our success.
Over the next few months we will launch a refreshed website and a blog giving you the means to support and engage,
in whatever way you want, to ‘help the cause.’ We are looking for volunteers for our committees and will humbly accept
any financial support you can send our way.
So seize the moment and become a “Friend of IGO” - volunteer and/or donate.
In closing, my sincere thanks to Zulema D’Souza and her volunteers for 21 years of effort and accomplishment. You’ve
left big boots to fill. To my fellow Goans and friends, please give us your time and energy as we brew the ‘feni!’ To my
fellow directors, onwards and forwards!
