Prerequisites: Satisfactory completion of all prior
PN course requirements
Intravenous infusion therapy and care of culturally
diverse clients who require intravenous fluids,
electrolytes, blood products, antibiotics and TPN.
Utilization of nursing process to insure personal
responsibility for prevention of complications,
maintenance and promotion of client safety during
intravenous therapy is expected. Consideration given
to caring for the total individual across the lifespan
and health continuum; effective communication with
the health care team, delegation, management and
scope of practice in relation to IV therapy.
Opportunities for simulated and actual experience in
a laboratory setting and acute-care facilities.
NUR 1231 PN Nursing of Mothers and Infants
1 credit
Prerequisites: Satisfactory completion of all prior
PN course requirements
Integrates cultural diversity and scope of practice
into knowledge and skills regarding safe, holistic
nursing care during prenatal, labor, delivery, post
partum and neonatal periods utilizing the nursing
process. Nutrition and pharmacology, prevention
of illness, promotion and maintenance of health
across a health continuum during childbearing
years and the perinatal period, delegation,
management, communicating with the individual,
the family and the health care team.
NUR 1242 PN Nursing of Children
2 credits
Prerequisites: Satisfactory completion of all prior
PN course requirements
Introduction to knowledge and skills to provide
safe nursing care of children. Includes psychosocial,
physical, and emotional development from
infancy through adolescence and principles of
nursing significance to care of the total child with
acute and chronic illnesses, utilizing the nursing
process. Emphasis on promotion of the family unit
during hospitalization of a child. Nutrition and
pharmacology, prevention of illness, promotion
and maintenance of health, delegation, management,
communicating with children, the family
and the health care team, cultural diversity and
scope of practice are integrated.
NUR 1316 PN Adult Nursing I
6 credits
Prerequisites: Satisfactory completion of all prior
PN course requirements
Knowledge regarding common conditions of
illness and safe nursing care of culturally diverse
clients in acute, sub-acute, or convalescent
conditions utilizing the nursing process, nutrition,
and administration of medications. Consideration
given regarding communication with individuals,
families and the health care team; prevention of
illness, promotion and maintenance of health;
delegation, management, scope of practice and
holistic nursing care across the lifespan.
NUR 1505 PN Anatomy and Physiology
5 credits
Prerequisite or corequisite: NUR 1101, NUR 1603
or PE 3413
Anatomy and physiology of the human body and
its systems. Provides a foundation for understanding
the principles of maintaining positive
health as well as understanding deviations from
normal health conditions.
NUR 1603 PN Nutrition
3 credits
Prerequisites or corequisites: NUR 1101 and NUR
1505 or BIOL 2243 and BIOL 2301
Principles of good nutrition for all age groups and
principles of modification for therapeutic
purposes. Nutrition concepts are integrated
throughout the course.
NUR 2151 PN Mental Health and Illness
1 credit
Prerequisites: Satisfactory completion of all prior
PN course requirements
Introduction to common conditions of mental
illness, prevention of such conditions, maintenance
and promotion of mental health across the
life span and health continuum and safe nursing
care of culturally diverse clients suffering from
abnormal mental and emotional conditions.
Mental hygiene, delegation, management, the
nursing process, communication with individuals,
families and the health care team, scope of
practice and providing holistic nursing care are
integrated.
NUR 2264 PN Clinical I
4 credits

Training areas and supervision provided in
cooperation with area health facilities. Rotation
plans developed so each student spends time in
each facet of health care available in local clinical
facilities. Students apply all knowledge and skills
learned to provide safe holistic nursing care while
utilizing the nursing process.
NUR 2326 PN Clinical II
