Accounting & Bookkeeping<br />

This program consists of 60 hours of instruction: Computerized Bookkeeping for Windows, Part I (36 hours), Part 2 (12 hours) <strong>and</strong> Part 3 (12 hours). Get training in the basic concepts of<br />

accounting principles (utilized by service <strong>and</strong> merch<strong>and</strong>ising companies) <strong>and</strong> business applications (for bank reconciliations <strong>and</strong> spreadsheet analysis.) Become prepared for entry-level<br />

employment opportunities in such areas as general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable <strong>and</strong> payroll.<br />

Computerized Bookkeeping<br />

for Windows, Part 1<br />

Familiarize yourself with the fundamental principles of<br />

accounting using Peachtree for Windows. Emphasis will<br />

be placed on the computerized recording of business<br />

transactions in the General Journal, posting to General<br />

Ledgers <strong>and</strong> preparing financial statements. You will<br />

complete the accounting cycle, adjustments <strong>and</strong> closing<br />

entries. At the completion of this course, you will be able<br />

to look for a position as an Accounting Clerk,<br />

Bookkeeper, Payroll Clerk, Accounts Payable Clerk or<br />

Accounts Receivable Clerk.<br />

Computerized Bookkeeping<br />

for Windows, Part 2<br />

Practice recording business transactions for a<br />

merch<strong>and</strong>ising company using Peachtree for Windows<br />

software. Receive h<strong>and</strong>s-on experience in setting up an<br />

inventory system, making the necessary adjustments,<br />

computing the depreciation formula <strong>and</strong> determining the<br />

book value of a company's assets. Under the instructor's<br />

supervision, you will generate financial reports that meet<br />

professional accounting st<strong>and</strong>ards. Prerequisite: successful<br />

completion of Computerized Bookkeeping for Windows,<br />

Part 1.<br />

potential cash shortages <strong>and</strong> account receivables aging.<br />

Certificate Program in QuickBooks<br />

<strong>LaGuardia</strong> offers a 42-hour certificate program in QuickBooks. If you have no background in bookkeeping or accounting, you will need to take Bookkeeping Basics, which is not part of<br />

the certificate program.<br />

Bookkeeping Basics<br />

This 4-hour workshop will review balance sheet <strong>and</strong><br />

income statement fundamentals <strong>and</strong> will help prepare<br />

you for Introduction to QuickBooks. You will learn how to<br />

use the chart of accounts, how debits <strong>and</strong> credits work,<br />

<strong>and</strong> how to avoid common bookkeeping <strong>and</strong> accounting<br />

mistakes. Emphasis will be on producing accurate <strong>and</strong><br />

timely accounting documents that will help you manage<br />

<strong>and</strong> control the business.<br />

QuickBooks Pro is currently used by lawyers, architects,<br />

small businesses <strong>and</strong> non-profit organizations, <strong>and</strong> is<br />

highly recommended by accountants to their clients.<br />

Requirements: familiarity with Windows. Class size is<br />

limited <strong>and</strong> enrollments will be on a first-come, first<br />
