Advanced Grammar Workshop
In this workshop for students who speak English very
well but who want a comprehensive review of English
grammar, you'll analyze spoken and written English to
become familiar with the advanced structures of the
language. You will also receive intensive practice in using
these structures through a variety of exercises. The goal
is to improve your ability to communicate by helping you
understand how grammar communicates meaning.

Listening and Speaking Skills
through the Media
If you are an advanced student who wants to improve
your listening and speaking skills, as well as expand your
vocabulary, take this course. Class materials include public
commentary programs on a variety of current topics from
radio and TV. You will learn to discuss issues, support
opinions, work on relevant grammar, broaden your
vocabulary, and write summaries. Through these activities
you will expand your awareness of current issues as well
as gain more confidence in expressing yourself in English.
Pronunciation and Idioms
Workshop
Do you find it difficult to communicate in English in your
everyday life? Would you like to speak more clearly,
using the right vocabulary for every occasion? If so, this
workshop is for you! Learn common idiomatic
expressions that native speakers use everyday. Work on
the most common pronunciation difficulties as well as
individual ones so you can be understood more clearly
and easily. By the end of this class, you will have more
confidence speaking English and will gain a variety of
useful vocabulary and idiomatic expressions that you can
use in your daily life.

TOEFL Preparation Workshop
Prepare for the new Internet-based TOEFL (iBT) and
improve your overall language skills at the same time.
Instruction will focus on listening, speaking, reading,
writing, advanced grammar, vocabulary development,
and useful test-taking strategies. You'll also have a chance
to practice the new TOEFL online in a computer lab.
Writing Workshop for Advanced
Students
If you already speak English very well but want to improve
your writing skills and review English grammar, take this
workshop for advanced students. You will review English
grammar and practice writing simple compositions, letters,
reports, and memos. In addition, you'll learn how to find
your own mistakes and correct them.

This course is designed to help advanced ESL students to
develop confidence in speaking in public, and to improve
their communication skills in general. You will learn how
to prepare and deliver short speeches, and practice
techniques to speak more effectively in school, at work,
and in social situations. You will also work on
pronunciation, intonation, and stress patterns in English.

Welcome to The English Language Center’s (TELC) new
and improved Media Center, located in Room C-311.
The SONY Virtuoso Language Learning System allows for a multimedia-based learning
environment in which you and your teachers can easily share course materials and
work together to develop language skills. The system promotes interactive learning—
helping you engage in listening, speaking and cultural exploration—and enables the
creation and use of digital materials that can be tailored to your particular languagelearning
needs. In addition, this system will allow TELC instructors the ability to
combine other technologies into the curriculum, including ePortfolio, BlackBoard,
PowerPoint and digital stories.
