English as a Second Language
The English Language Center (TELC) is the largest ESL program in the New York City metropolitan area. Serving approximately 7,000 students a year and offering a variety of English
language programs geared to meet the particular needs of our culturally and academically diverse student population, it includes full-time and part-time programs and specialized
workshops for skill development and test preparation. Beginning, intermediate and advanced level courses are available, as well as a modern language lab facility. The Center issues I-20s
to qualified students. If you complete the intensive programs, you will be eligible to enter CUNY without taking the TOEFL.

Payment for all ESL courses can be made with cash, money order or credit/debit card (American Express, MasterCard, Visa, Discover) only. Registration may close at any time. Please

Advanced Workshops
Learn English for college, graduate school, and
professional advancement in these academic preparation
programs. Choose from Morning Intensive (20 hours per
week) or Afternoon Intensive (18 hours per week).
Improve your English reading, writing, listening, speaking,
grammar and pronunciation skills, and choose an elective
at the intermediate and advanced levels - from business
English to dance, pronunciation, vocabulary and more!
Receive free tutoring in writing and conversation at our
Language Clinic. Classes meet U.S. Government
requirements for the issuance of I-20s.
Registration: January 2nd and 5th, 2009, 11:00 am-3:00
pm in Room C-354. The non-refundable $50 registration
fee is included.

Evening Intensive
Are you planning to enroll in a college or university, or do
you need to improve your English skills to advance in your
professional career? If so, take this 6-level intensive and
academic ESL program. You will improve your English
listening, speaking, reading, writing and grammar skills,
and acquire valuable college study skills. Registration
starts January 12, 2009, Monday-Thursday, 4:00 pm -
7:00 pm in Room C-354. The non-refundable $50
registration fee is included.

Do you have difficulty understanding and speaking
English in your everyday life? Do you need to improve
your overall English language ability? By participating in
this part-time ESL program, you will improve your
listening, speaking, reading, and grammar skills, and gain
confidence in your ability to use English in a variety of
situations. Classes range from beginning to advanced
levels. Registration starts January 5, 2009, 4:00 pm - 7:00
pm, and is also available on Saturday, January 10, 2009,
10:00 am -1:00 pm, in Room C-354. The non-refundable
$15 registration fee is included.

These workshops are designed for advanced level
students who want to focus on a specific skill in English.
Writing, Pronunciation, Grammar, and TOEFL Preparation
courses are available for those who have completed Level
6 in one of the non-intensive programs or new students
who pass the required entrance test for these advanced
workshops.
Pacement test and registration: January 7, 2009, 5:00
pm- 7:00 pm; January 8, 2009, 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, and
January 10, 2009, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm, in Room C-354.
The non-refundable $15 registration fee is included.
Intermediate Grammar Workshop
Do you speak English fairly well but have difficulty
understanding and using the correct grammatical
structures? Become more confident in your ability to
communicate correctly in English by taking this course.
You will learn common everyday structures used in
written and spoken English and practice how to use them
in different situations. A variety of grammar exercises,
short readings and other materials will be used.
