She has been an active emergency physician for over 30 years. Board certified in both Emergency and Disaster Medicine, she has practiced in suburban, rural, military, urban and academic environments and has a longstanding presence in the Emergency Medicine and ...the first woman to receive the American Medical Association’s Medal of Valor in 1995. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) communities in New York. Serving as Chairperson of the Emergency Department at Jamaica Hospital in Queens as well as Medical Director of New York City EMS in 1989, Dr. Giordano has advocated tirelessly for quality prehospital patient care. She was the first woman to receive the American Medical Association’s Medal of Valor in 1995. Dr. Giordano has previously taught both paramedics and fire fighters at various institutions locally and internationally, including Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, the Fire Department of New York City, and various universities throughout the Caribbean and in Europe. She believes that paramedics are an integral extension of the eyes and ears of emergency physicians, bringing their skills and therapeutic interventions directly to patients in the field.
