Infection Control Training
Infection Control Training
New York State law requires all licensed health care
professionals to receive training in infection control and
barrier precautions every four years. If you are a licensed
health care worker, this NYS Education Departmentapproved
course will satisfy your licensure requirement.
Increase your knowledge of new drug resistant
pathogens as well as occupational risks and current
immunization practices for health care workers. You will
also explore new strategies for infection prevention and
control.

Certified Nurse Aide
The Certified Nurse Aide training program provides
instruction in basic nursing theory and the technical skills
necessary to provide patient care. You will receive 90
hours of classroom instruction, followed by a 35-hour
clinical practicum in a local long-term care facility. You'll
also receive 15 hours of preparation for the state exam.
Course content includes basic patient care, infection
control, nutrition and vital signs. Upon completion of the
program, you'll take the NYS Certified Nurse Aide Exam.

LPN to RN Transition
LPN to RN Transition Course
Responding to the shortage of professional nurses in the
area, the New York State LPN to RN Transition course
creates a pathway to encourage Licensed Practical Nurses
to advance in their careers. This course will facilitate your
transition from the role of Practical Nurse to that of a
student preparing for the role of Registered Nurse. It will
validate your prior learning and update your knowledge,
focusing on critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Upon successful completion of this course you will be
eligible to earn a minimum of 12 credits in a participating
Associate Degree Nursing program.

Medical Office Clinical
Technician Program
Get certified as a Phlebotomist and EKG Technician, and
learn medical terminology to become a Medical Office
Clinical Technician. The Medical Office Clinical Technician
assists the physician with many clinical areas of the medical
practice, including taking vital signs, preparing patients for
procedures, performing phlebotomy (blood drawing) and
electrocardiography (EKG). Upon successfully passing all
three courses listed below, in any order, you will earn the
Medical Office Clinical Technician Certificate from
LaGuardia. (Courses may also be taken individually.)
Medical Terminology
Develop a basic "working" knowledge of the language
of health care to serve as a basis for your individual career
needs by using an applied approach. Learn basic medical
terms and how they are used in documenting and
reporting patient care procedures.

Phlebotomy
Learn the anatomy and physiology of the venous system
as well as phlebotomy practices. Develop your skills in the
performance of a variety of blood collection techniques
employing universal precautions. Perform blood collection
procedures including: (a) vacuum collection; (b) syringes;
(c) dermal punctures; (d) butterfly needles; and (e) microhematocrit
collections. Learn infection prevention and
control; patient identification; quality assurance; and
specimen handling, labeling, and transport. Successful
completion leads to certification as a Phlebotomy
Technician.

Interpretation and Performance
of the Electrocardiogram (EKG)
Learn the anatomy and physiology of the heart,
cardiovascular diseases, modern EKG techniques, and
basic EKG interpretation. Become familiar with
electrophysiology, EKG rhythms, conduction problems
and pacemaker recognition. You will set up an EKG
machine, prepare patients for testing, and perform actual
electrocardiograms. Learn the relationship between EKG
interpretation and disease states. Successful completion
leads to certification as an EKG Technician.
