Computer Repair Certificate Program<br />

The 4-course Certificate Program in A+ Computer Repair provides you with the practical <strong>and</strong> conceptual skills<br />

necessary to diagnose, troubleshoot, repair <strong>and</strong>/or replace malfunctioning computer hardware <strong>and</strong> to prepare for<br />

the A+ certification exam in Computer Repair. In order to enroll in the program you must first successfully<br />

complete Introduction to Computer Technology or pass a screening test. For more information about the<br />

Designed by the Gas Technology Institute (GTI), this course provides skills for those seeking employment in the<br />

natural gas industry (e.g., Con Edison <strong>and</strong> KeySpan). Beginning with an overview to the industry you will learn<br />

operations, measurement, gas quality, codes <strong>and</strong> st<strong>and</strong>ards, regulation <strong>and</strong> over pressure protection, pipeline<br />

construction <strong>and</strong> gas control. By successfully completing this core course, you will be prepared for hire as an entrylevel<br />

technician within the industry. Prerequisites include a high school diploma or GED <strong>and</strong> successful completion<br />

of a math skills assessment. You also need to have a driver’s license <strong>and</strong> be physically fit.<br />

how they control computer functions; how to install an<br />

operating system; different types of Windows<br />

environments; <strong>and</strong>, an overview of applications <strong>and</strong><br />

Internet use of PCs. This course is a prerequisite for<br />

Computer Repair, Part 1.<br />

Learn the background <strong>and</strong> skills to do basic computer<br />

repair, with heavy emphasis on IBM compatible<br />

together to disassemble a PC, install component parts,<br />

practice troubleshooting techniques <strong>and</strong> learn proper use<br />

of tools. You must pass a screening test demonstrating a<br />

basic knowledge of the Windows <strong>and</strong> MS-DOS<br />

Operating Systems in order to register.<br />

Computer Repair Part 2<br />

Explore PC operating systems architecture, (Windows<br />

2000 <strong>and</strong> Windows XP), hardware <strong>and</strong> software. You will<br />

learn operating system preparation <strong>and</strong> installation <strong>and</strong><br />

software configuration; computer virus prevention <strong>and</strong><br />

detection programs; <strong>and</strong>, memory management tools<br />

<strong>and</strong> techniques. In addition, you will learn to perform<br />

software diagnostics, <strong>and</strong> install <strong>and</strong> troubleshoot<br />

multimedia components such as CD- ROMS <strong>and</strong> sound<br />

cards. Prerequisite: successful completion of Computer<br />

Repair, Part 1.<br />

monitoring <strong>and</strong> software inventory tools, as well as<br />

h<strong>and</strong>s-on experience in motherboard configuration,<br />

memory <strong>and</strong> CPU up-grades. Prerequisite: successful<br />

completion of Computer Repair, Parts 1, 2 <strong>and</strong> 3.<br />
