Monitor Panel makers Technology Roadmap(’09~’13) 

• Power Saving/Green design become major trend in Monitor design. By using 2 lamps, panel makers not only can save power 

consumption but also have cost advantage. It expects that mainstream monitor panels will maintain around 250 nits to 300 nits in 

the upcoming years. 

• Through the adoption of high contrast ratio color resister, new L/C for lower black level and new cell structure, contrast ratio already 

meets 1000:1 in TN mode and over 1200:1 in VA/IPS mode from 2007. Panel maker expect to reach over1200: 1 in TN mode from 

2H’09. 

• LED backlight and high color CCFL enable high-end monitors to reach over 90% color gamut. Panel makers promote very 

aggressively for high color gamut in 2008 but there is no significant demand from end market. Therefore, high color 

gamut models decreased a lot in mainstream size in 2009.

• AUO and CMO are aggressively developing LED Slim products: 15.6” W~24”W 

• AUO is planning to input AMV3 in 2H’09 and 21.5”W panel with touch function will be MP in 1Q’10. 

• CMO is now developing 120Hz technology and Q2;09 will launch 120Hz/Touch technology on

Monitor Panel roadmap by Size (15”/15.6”W) 

• Major Panel Makers, except Samsung, are or will produce 15.6”W Monitor panel. 

• Mainstream luminance for 15.6” is 250nits with few lower(200nits/220nits) for cost down products. 

• Contrast ratio is mainly 500:1 and three models are (600:1/700:1).
