New Faces at <strong>Shodair</strong><br />
<strong>Shodair</strong> welcomed genetic counselor<br />
Marissa Clark to its Genetics<br />
Department this summer. Marissa<br />
received her Master of Science<br />
degree in genetic counseling from<br />
Arcadia University in Glenside,<br />
Pennsylvania this year. She earned her Bachelor of<br />
Science degree in biology from Rocky Mountain College<br />
in Billings in 2009. She is a member of the National<br />
Society of Genetic Counselors.<br />
While pursuing her Master's degree, Marissa experienced<br />
a variety of clinical rotations in genetic counseling,<br />
including one in pediatric genetics at <strong>Children's</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong><br />
of Philadelphia, and one in the cancer risk evaluation<br />
program at the University of Pennsylvania.<br />
Marissa sees adult and pediatric patients for a variety of<br />
conditions at <strong>Shodair</strong>'s genetic outreach clinics in Billings,<br />
Miles City, and Sidney.<br />
Also this summer, Kelly Haugen,<br />
LCPC, joined <strong>Shodair</strong>'s psychiatric<br />
clinical staff as a primary therapist for<br />
its adolescent patients. Kelly received<br />
her bachelor of science degree in<br />
psychology in 2007, and her master's degree<br />
in Health and Human Development - Mental Health<br />
Counseling from Montana State University in 2010.<br />
She obtained her LCPC licensing this fall.<br />
Immediately after completing her master's, Kelly worked<br />
as a therapist for a comprehensive school and community<br />
treatment program providing individual, group, and family<br />
therapy. She served students who ranged from kindergarteners<br />
through high school seniors.<br />
Kelly's areas of interest include working with at-risk<br />
youth, family dynamics, mindfulness, and Collaborative<br />
Problem Solving.<br />
This fall, <strong>Shodair</strong> welcomed new laboratory director<br />
Dongbin Xu, Ph.D. to its Genetics Department. Dr. Xu<br />
earned his doctorate in biomedical science from the<br />
University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center at<br />
Houston in 2009. Two years later, he completed a<br />
fellowship in cytogenetics at The <strong>Children's</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> of<br />
Philadelphia. Dr. Xu is board eligible for certification<br />
in clinical cytogenetics.<br />

Originally from China, Dr. Xu<br />
began his career as a genetic<br />
research assistant at Huazhong<br />
University of Science and<br />
Technology in Wuhan, China in<br />
1999. Over the next decade, Dr. Xu built an impressive<br />
career in the field of genetics, including his work as a<br />
graduate student at Fudan University at Shanghai,<br />
China, and the University of Texas M.D. Anderson<br />
Cancer Center.<br />
Dr. Xu is affiliated with a variety of organizations,<br />
including the American Society of Medical Genetics, the<br />
American Cytogenetics Conference, and the Society for<br />
Developmental Biology. He is the author of numerous<br />
articles regarding genetic research and a recipient of the<br />
Hearst Foundation Research and Education Award.<br />
Also this fall, <strong>Shodair</strong> welcomed<br />
school psychologist Terri<br />
Fernandez-Tyson, Ph.D. to its<br />
Psychology Department. Dr.<br />
Fernandez-Tyson received her<br />
Bachelor of Arts degree in<br />
Elementary Education from Arizona State University at<br />
Tempe. She earned her Master's of Education degree as<br />
well as her doctorate in Educational Psychology, also<br />
from ASU.<br />
Dr. Fernandez-Tyson's experience includes work with<br />
preschool, elementary, middle, and high school<br />
students and their families in school, correctional, and<br />
home-based settings in California, Arizona, and Idaho.<br />
Immediately prior to working at <strong>Shodair</strong>, Dr. Fernandez-<br />
Tyson operated a forensic psychology practice in<br />
southern Idaho that provided services to psychiatric<br />
inpatients and adult and juvenile offenders in the<br />
Idaho Fifth Judicial District.<br />
As <strong>Shodair</strong>'s school psychologist, Dr. Fernandez-Tyson<br />
collaborates with the hospital's educators and clinicians<br />
to help patients meet behavioral expectations, function<br />
socially in school, and learn within in the school<br />
setting. As the hospital's patients discharge,<br />
Dr. Fernandez-Tyson also assists with their transition<br />
to their community schools.<br />
Dr. Fernandez-Tyson is a member of the American<br />
Psychological Association.<br />
Reunion
