Alexis' mom, Kim Butterworth, also visited the<br />

hospital. “I wish someone had referred us to<br />

<strong>Shodair</strong> when we were trying to get a diagnosis<br />

for Alexis,” she said. “I'm glad that more people<br />

are talking about conditions like Asperger's than<br />

there were when Alexis was referred from<br />

provider to provider.”<br />

As part of the Miss America Organization's<br />

partnership with CMN <strong>Hospital</strong>s, Alexis also<br />

serves as a goodwill ambassador for <strong>Shodair</strong>.<br />

<strong>Shodair</strong> Community Involvement<br />

March for Babies<br />

Team <strong>Shodair</strong> braved chilly spring weather on May 5 at the annual<br />

March of Dimes' March for Babies in Helena. <strong>Shodair</strong> was a sponsor<br />

of the event, which supports research and programs that help moms<br />

have full-term pregnancies and babies begin healthy lives.<br />

Susan G. Komen Race For the Cure<br />

Once again, Team <strong>Shodair</strong> took part in the Komen Montana Race for<br />

the Cure on May 19 in Helena. This year marked the Susan G. Komen<br />

organization's eighteenth year of fighting breast cancer in Montana.<br />

Monies raised through Race for the Cure help fund grants, education,<br />

and early detection activities throughout the state.<br />

NAMI Walk<br />

<strong>Shodair</strong> <strong>Children's</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> was a sponsor of the NAMI Walk,<br />

coordinated by the Montana Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental<br />

Illness to raise awareness and funds for Montanans living with serious<br />

mental illness. NAMI Walk <strong>2012</strong> was held September 23 in Helena;<br />

Team <strong>Shodair</strong> had nearly 40 walkers and raised over $700.<br />

Relay for Life<br />

Nearly 30 hospital employees, family members, and friends joined<br />

together to form <strong>Shodair</strong>'s first Relay For Life Team on August 3 in<br />

Helena. The team's campsite was decorated with paper bag luminarias<br />

painted by the hospital’s patients. Team <strong>Shodair</strong> raised nearly $1,000 to<br />

fight cancer and was a sponsor of the event.<br />
