Previously, Tom served as the Director of Development at Montana State University-Great Falls since 2006. While at the College, Tom was the campus's lead professional charged with the advancement of philanthropic support for student scholarships and construction projects, efforts that involved the establishment of the institution's Development Board and first successful capital campaign. Tom was also the College's principal staff for governmental affairs, advocating campus priorities to the Montana Legislature and the state's Congressional delegation. Tom earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Montana and a master’s of teaching, with an emphasis in social science education, from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Since 2006, Tom has also served as a Commissioned Officer in the Montana Army National Guard, presently serving as a company commander in Helena. ThankYou! Thank you to our many generous donors. As human beings, we are creatures designed for interaction and affiliation with one another. Whether it's with family, friends, coworkers, or even a stranger on the street, we each have a need for human fulfillment uniquely found through relationships. To our overall health, they are as important as a balanced diet or an active lifestyle. For the children and families served at Shodair Children's Hospital, relationships simply save lives. All those serving in Shodair's psychiatric and genetic services offer a critical relationship to those who come through the hospital's doors on a daily basis. Rooted in the emotions of care, compassion, trust, and love, these relationships save lives and offer the promise of a healthy future for many Montana children and families. As a donor, you too offer a vital relationship to those served by Shodair. Your contributions provide a relationship of support that helps advance the hospital's mission on a daily basis, an act that extends your hand of generousity to Montana's children and families. Through this kindhearted act, you too forge a bond rooted in the care, compassion, trust, and love that bridges a union between your giving and those who will have increased access to healing and treatment here at the hospital. While this donor-patient relationship isn't as direct as that between the caregiver and patient, it nevertheless helps save a life. Sincerely, Tom Figarelle Giving Options: A gift to Shodair Children's Hospital can be designed in a way that fits your charitable goals and provides you with optimal tax benefits. For example, the timing of a gift can be personalized to your needs so the gift is made in one lump sum or over a period of years. Donated assets can also be individualized. While cash gifts are most common, there are many other ways to fund your gift that may be more beneficial. Some of the common ways to fund a gift include: • Cash - A quick and basic way of making a donation that qualifies for a charitable income tax deduction. • Stocks and Securities - Appreciated stocks and securities may be given without regard for capital gains taxes, are easily transferred, and qualify for a charitable income tax deduction. • Property - Both real estate and tangible personal property can be given without regard for capital gains taxes and qualify for a charitable income tax deduction. • Life Insurance - A gift of a paid-up insurance policy that is no longer needed, a new policy, or a “premium due” policy can provide either immediate or future support for Shodair and qualifies for a charitable income tax deduction. You can also designate Shodair as a beneficiary of the plan, which would provide the hospital with future support. • Retirement Plan Assets - Currently, those 70 or older can transfer up to $100,000 annually from a traditional IRA, which is considered a required minimum distribution and is not taxed.
