60. Agnes T. Lacey (Mary 3 , Robert 2 , <strong>James</strong> 1 ) was born in Wellsburg, <strong>West</strong> <strong>Virginia</strong><br />

on October 27, 1906. She lived with her family in Moundsville, WV. Agnes<br />

graduated from Moundsville High School in 1923. Following her mother’s suicide in<br />

1928 she moved to Shreveport, Louisiana to live with her aunt, Cecelia <strong>Halpin</strong><br />

Bronsell. In Shreveport she was employed as a stenographer and private secretary in<br />

the oil industry. She later moved to Houston, Texas, continuing her employment in<br />

the oil industry. Agnes died in Houston on November 17, 1993. She was never<br />

married.<br />

61. Charles Prather Wells (Agnes 3 , Robert 2 , <strong>James</strong> 1 ) was born in Marshall County,<br />

WV on May 1, 1908. He graduated from Moundsville High School in 1927, received<br />

an AB Degree from <strong>West</strong> Liberty State College in 1929, and an MA Degree from the<br />

University <strong>of</strong> Pittsburgh in 1931. Charles was married to Grace Lillian Raymer on<br />

November 10, 1931 in St. Francis Xavier Church in Moundsville, WV. Grace, a<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> Isaac Newton Raymer and Mary Ellen Trouten Raymer, was born in<br />

Kirkwood, Ohio April 24, 1909. Charles became principal <strong>of</strong> Nicholas County High<br />

School in Summersville, <strong>West</strong> <strong>Virginia</strong> in 1939. He held that position until he retired<br />

in 1973. Charles and Grace continued to live in Summersville until his death on<br />

January 29, 1998. After Charles’ death, Grace moved to Clearwater, Florida to live<br />

with her daughter, Jean Wells Foster. Grace died August 30, 2009 in Pinellas Park,<br />

Florida.<br />

Charles and Grace had two daughters:<br />

62. Robert <strong>Halpin</strong> Wells (Agnes 3 , Robert 2 , <strong>James</strong> 1 ) was born on the J. N. Wells<br />

farm, Wells Bottom, Marshall County on March 24, 1910. He was married to<br />

Maxine Mason on June 16, 1939 in St. Francis Xavier Church, Moundsville.<br />

Maxine Mason, born June 16, 1915, was a daughter <strong>of</strong> Archibald Mason and<br />

Georgia McKimmie.<br />

Robert attended Moundsville High School, graduating from the Commercial<br />

Course in 1928. He lettered in baseball in his junior and senior years and also<br />

played basketball. Following graduation, he was employed at the Fokker<br />

Aircraft Company in Glen Dale, WV. The 1930 U.S. Census lists his<br />

occupation as “bookkeeper”. He remained at Fokker until the closure <strong>of</strong> that<br />

operation in 1931. In 1934, he entered <strong>West</strong> Liberty State College. He received his<br />

Standard Normal Degree in August 1936 after which he taught school in Marshall<br />

County. It was during this time that he met Maxine Mason who also was a teacher<br />

in Marshall County. Their betrothal was announced in the spring <strong>of</strong> 1939. At that<br />

time, Robert was employed at the <strong>West</strong> <strong>Virginia</strong> State Penitentiary. Following their<br />

marriage, Robert and Maxine lived on Jefferson Avenue immediately across the<br />

street from the penitentiary. Sometime in the mid-1940’s they moved to a new home<br />

at 1511 Seventh Street, Moundsville.<br />
