FRIMLEY LODGE PARK
Sturt Road, Frimley Green, GU16 6HY
Surrey Heath’s ‘Jewel in the Crown’ and Green
Flag standard park. 24 hectares of open space
with a combination of formal sports provision
in a rural setting with woodland, meadows,
canalside walks, wildlife ponds and a very
popular miniature railway! There are charcoal
and gas BBQs for hire, a picturesque 9-hole
pitch and putt course and Café on site.
FRIMLEY GREEN RECREATION GROUND,
Frimley Green Rd, Frimley Green, GU16 9AP
A large park, dominated by a grassy hill,
offering extensive views over Surrey and
Hampshire. There is a children’s play area,
five football pitches, two tennis courts and a
cricket square. An area of natural vegetation
has been conserved for the benefit of local
wildlife.

WATCHETTS RECREATION GROUND
Park Road, Camberley, GU15 2SR
Home of the Camberley Rugby Football Club,
Frimley Lawn Tennis Club and Watchetts
Bowls Club. The park also provides cricket
and casual tennis facilities, and a children’s
play area.
LONDON ROAD RECREATION GROUND
Grand Avenue, Camberley, GU15 3QH
Surrey Heath’s oldest park opened by Queen
Victoria in 1898, located adjacent to the Arena
Leisure Centre. In addition to football pitches,
cricket square, bowling green and tennis
courts, there is a small ornamental garden
and children’s play area. Home to Camberley
Bowls Club.

An open space in the middle of Old Dean
A compact recreation ground complete with
Estate, home to Old Dean Bowls Club. Two
tennis courts, bowling green, children’s play
football pitches are available, along with three
area and skate park. Home to Mytchett Bowls
play areas and a BMX/roller skating track.

CHOBHAM PLACE WOODS & ROUND
POND
Valley End Road, Chobham, GU24 8TB
A mature broadleaf wood, once belonging
to Chobham Place House lying to the south.
Located on the edge of Chobham Common,
the easy access nature trail leads through
the scenic woodland, perfect for walking
and cycling. Round Pond to the east is a
picturesque water body supporting a wide
range of wildlife.

HEATHERSIDE RECREATION GROUND,

A large open space, offering 3 football pitches,
children’s play area and skate park. The park
is also bisected by a lovely avenue of giant
Redwood trees.
SOUTHCOTE PARK

CRABTREE PARK
Crabtree Road, Camberley, GU15 2TA
Pleasant open spaces with informal recreation
facilities. Southcote is the home of Camberley
Lawn Tennis Club, and Crabtree is the site of
Surrey Heath’s most popular skate park.

CAMBERLEY TOWN PARK & THE OBELISK

Behind the civic offices and Camberley
Library lies this new park with children’s
playground and adventure trail. Atop the hill
at the rear of the park is the ruined Obelisk
Tower, a historical folly with magnificent views
westward.

WATCHMOOR RESERVE

BLACKWATER PARK
Admiralty Way, Camberley, GU15 3DT
Areas set aside for conservation, landscaped
with grassy wildflower meadows and
woodland. Pathways and bridges allow easy
access throughout Watchmoor Reserve, and
the River Blackwater offers a beautiful setting
for walks and wildlife spotting.

LIGHTWATER COUNTRY PARK
The Avenue, Lightwater, GU18 5RG
The country park extends to 59 hectares
and consists of a variety of habitats including
open heathland, woodland, meadows and
ponds. The heathland is a protected Site
of Special Scientific Interest (S.S.S.I.) due
to the rare wildlife it supports. There are
waymarked walks and nature trails, and the
view from High Curley hill is well worth the
climb! Facilities also include a dog-free picnic
area and children’s playground. For more

TURF HILL PARK

Another S.S.S.I. area of open heathland and
pine woodland nearby.

EVENTS
The Council runs a varied programme of
walks and events across every season.
These include guided health walks, wildlife
walks, and a host of events for children such
as mini-beast hunting and woodland survival

WILDLIFE
Surrey Heath plays host to a huge variety of resident and migrating birds and animals all year round.
If you are looking for a challenge, perhaps you could try spotting some of these animals that have been

CORMORANT
Walking is also a popular pastime within
Surrey Heath with a host of organisations
leading groups across the Borough. There
are clearly waymarked Nature Trails at both
Chobham Place Woods and Lightwater
Country Park, and four ‘Walk4Life’ mile-long
waymarked walks at the following locations
(see map overleaf):
WALKING
Getting active in Surrey Heath’s parks and
countryside is easy. Cycling is a very popular
activity, and is an ideal way to experience
your local area. There are a number of
surfaced paths across the Borough (see map
overleaf) to explore, whilst keeping yourself
and the environment healthy!
CYCLING
All our playgrounds are for the use of children
aged between 4 – 14 years; please ensure
young children are supervised at all times.

LEISURE AND SPORTS FACILITIES
Surrey Heath boasts an impressive quantity
and high quality of sports clubs and facilities,
which have produced some Olympic-class
athletes! There are also various leisure
facilities across Surrey Heath, including the
Arena Leisure Centre in Camberley and
Lightwater Leisure Centre in Lightwater
Country Park. The Sports and Leisure

contacts, and can be found on the Council
website.

SURREY HEATH
Surrey Heath Borough Council manages
over 254 hectares of open space, almost
half of which is open heathland. The
remainder offers a variety of green space
with opportunities for casual recreation and
formal sport. Other significant open spaces
in the Borough are Chobham Common which
is managed by Surrey Wildlife Trust on behalf
of Surrey County Council. Another is the
Basingstoke Canal which is managed by the
Canal Authority.
