Former Accounting & Economics Instructor
Sarah Woolsey is Kilgore College’s
Ex-Teacher of the Year for 2007
“Mrs. Woolsey was a
professional in every
sense of the definition.
From her attire to bringing
world experiences
to the classroom, Mrs.
Woolsey motivated and
encouraged her students
to pursue their dreams.”
Scott Lewis, CPA, from
his nomination letter to the
Ex-Student Officers.
Sarah Woolsey grew up on
a ranch near Paris, Texas, the
third of seven children. She
graduated as salutatorian from
Central High School.
She moved to Longview
in 1969 and began classes at
Kilgore College. She graduated
with honors from KC. Then
she transferred to Stephen F. Austin
State University where she earned
her BBA and MBA in Accounting,
again graduating with highest
honors. She was a member of Alphi
Chi Honor Society and Omicron
Delta Epsilon.
In 1977 Sarah joined Kilgore
College as an Accounting and Economics
instructor. She developed
and taught the Oil and Gas Tax accounting
course. There was no text
book available so Sarah reserached
the resources available to best teach
the students in this class. She also
introduced computers in the Income
Tax Course.
She received her Certified Public
Accounting certificate shortly
after starting her teaching career.
While at Kilgore College she cosponsored
the Business Club and
served on numerous committees,
including two self-study committees
and the Committee on the
Economic Impact of Kilgore College
on the local community. She
received the Outstanding Teacher
Award in 1989. She has completed
additional educational courses at
the University of Texas at Tyler,
East Texas State University at
Commerce and North Texas University
in Denton.
In 1997 Sarah retired from
Kilgore College after twenty years.
Sarah and her husband live in
Longview. They have two sons, one
daughter-in law, and one grandson.
Some of her hobbies include traveling,
reading, and oil painting.
