Charline Dauphin is Ex-Student of the Year
Charline Dauphin attended Kilgore College from 1948-1950 and
was a member of the 10th line of the Rangerettes. While at Kilgore
College she met and eventually married Sidney “Chief” Dauphin, a
football player at neighboring Tyler Junior College. She continued her
education at East Texas State University. Charline was a stay at home
mom to daughter Robin until 1969, when she and her husband opened
Texas Home Health in Silsbee. By taking healthcare to the homes of
patients and their families, she reinvented the way the healthcare system
worked. Her dedication and success led to her appointment as the
CEO of Texas Home Health, Inc.
In 2000, Charline began a new adventure as a community activist
and philanthropist. Because her family had experienced the devastating
effects of cancer, she quickly turned her expertise to battle this
disease.
Dauphin established the Sidney “Chief” Dauphin Memorial Postdoctoral
Fellowship Fund in 2002. The fund currently supports two
postdoctoral fellows in epidemiology and clinical cancer prevention at
the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. For her tireless work, M.D. Anderson in Houston dedicated
and named its molecular epidemiology genotyping facility for Charline and Sidney “Chief” Dauphin. She
still serves as a member of the board of directors at M.D. Anderson.
She became involved in the Julie Rogers “Gift of Life” program that focuses on cancer screening and
prevention. In May 2006, thanks to her generosity the dream became a reality with the grand opening of the
Charline and Sidney “Chief” Dauphin Cancer Screening and Prevention Center. This “center of excellence” offers
women throughout Southeast Texas access to the finest technology with the introduction of the area’s first
and only digital mammography system. Providing state-of-the-art imaging that reduces mammogram time while
increasing earlier detection of breast cancer, the Dauphin Center is designed with women in mind. The Center
also offers tobacco cessation programs and genetic counseling, as well as a resource library to keep the public
informed on the latest medical research and treatment options to assist in health care decisions.
Additional honors include Hallsville High School Outstanding Alumni in 2004 and Silsbee Outstanding
Citizen of the Year in 2007. Kilgore College is honored to name Charline Dauphin as our 2007 Ex-Student of
the Year.
